Hi guys, This is another track made from home a bit in hamster mood. I would like to apply for the AudioSexedAlbum even knowing that technically speaking my work fits well in the beginners-self-taught group, but as a good hamster nothing to loose when trying ;) http://soundcloud.com/rolma/same Beyond that I would really like to receive advice on the sound treatment, mix etc
Rolma babe...YOU'RE IN! No really I love this, love the dissonant, yet melody heavy nature of it, really love that creepy, yet kinda sexy female voice...real cyberpunkish to me. The writing is also really well done. Can't really give a review on mixing right now as I'm using my iphone earphones but man I'm loving the sound. Will get back to you further on this... I sense a really dark sounding album coming up...and I like it
hmmm okay I'm back on my normal computer listening to the mix now... I think the mix is pretty fine for what it is...maybe the kick and snare could be a little more heavier and punchy/snapy. Maybe layer a couple of kicks and snares together and create a really tight snare. And try to make it mix well with the bassline. I think you may also need to clear out some frequencies as well... the most typical thing to do is clear out anything below 20Hz and above 20KHz. We may also need a more solid bassline... but I still really love the sound and the writing. Kinda old schoolish psychedelic sound *yes*
Hi HKPotential (kinda of cool name) Thanks for taking into account my work for the album and also for your nice words of encouragement. I´m pretty sure the album will be very varied. It means a lot to me, in a way I´m crossing serious doubts about my sound and the niche is carving me. My approach is very artistic, homesick if you like, so experimentalism comes in handy but after seeing my work with some perspective I´m not that sure about it and my capacity of making something different or better. I´m going to sit a bit more trying to apply all the fixes you´ve suggested, I think I might be able to do it pretty straightforwardly ;) Channels are there so I guess is question of fine-tuning.
Don't worry about the niche and how popular/unpopular your sound is. Do what you love and the reason why I like this is because I know that it truly reflects you *yes* And as for your approach being artistic, THAT is exactly what we need for an album, we want artistic things, we want good writing. We aren't pros over here so we're not necessarily looking for the BEST OF THE BEST productions. But more productions which are from the heart and are honest. Trust me your experimental style is not unfamiliar and unpopular. Have you heard of Boards Of Canada? They do the exact same thing...but with better production of course. You can still be experimental, while also learn to engineer your sound as well *yes* I can help fine tune your artistic style if you want by giving you a few pointers and inspiration. Just hit me a PM anytime. Even really popular artists kind of have a similar style as yours. Check out this track by deadmau5, I'm sure you'll love the experimental nature of it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnC578AcvPs You can get to this level too *yes* Do what you love, and we'll love what you do And as for my name, of course it's cool...I'm just so much of a badass it's all over my clothes like perfume Call me HK btw
Intro: Some of the tweaky sounds are a tad too loud, the higher freq ones are stingers. Maybe the drums are too quiet? 0:42 swell is EPIC Love the vocals and the overall fidgety nature 3:15 synth again really stings my ears.
okey-dokey thanks so much for commenting and cool words I love deadmau5….I´ve danced lot of his stuff. In terms of production his standards are unreachable for my humble understanding of sound. I envy his kicks really a model to follow and his friend Steve Duda …but as I said I´m a suburban protozoan. Boards of Canada I like them as well I had a phase in which I listened a couple their albums very often, but those guys are far more subtle in their experimentalism and smooth in general. During the tweaking I´ll ask I´ll spend time among the kick and snare, bass high ranges etc In fact I think I might have available few db for the drums, but essentially the integration will be the work I guess There are also a couple of timbers that yeah, even if I eqed them a lot with notches and stuff they had a noticeable piercing point. Massive In a way I think I have to develop more muscle
I shouldn´t add this line at all given this post is old but Paus thank you so much I´m looking at the meters and at 0:42 it so clear the swell!!! and freqs and the limiters …. I´m fixing things thanks for pointing out on some stuff *yes* and on and on
Hi All, Rolma, Kas Product is a French Band from the eighties (I may be older than you), more "minimalist" than your music.
Rolma honey I love it. I'll give you some more in-depth feedback a little later because A) It's so awesome I want to enjoy it without tearing it apart and B) I'm getting buried in both forums. SO MUCH TO DO!!! And you have to hear Starve To Death by Frito. That one is going on the album, I can feel it. *yes* PS Beginner?...no honey...just no. *no* She definitely knows Anne Clark from the Transmissions series we run here and probably before since she has quite the refined palate. I put this up in Part III during the dark exhibit storyline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEItxWNjLKc I know all the bands you speak of. Miss Kitten And the Hacker not Hackers. Check out the Conversations About Good Music section. There are 3 different threads called Transmissions filled with goodies for the brave sonic adventurer. Meet Rolma...she's fucking awesome. Every song, every conversation, every time. *yes* One of the original transmitters in our Transmissions series. It was me, SAiNT, Feridan, Rolma and frito zanzibar.
Catalyst thank you so much for being so cool …if on here someone is the best is Mistah CT !!! That´s a lot on a thread of good words in a single thread (My breakfast today was -extra) I´m horribly busy with work, (teaching content development), life changes etc... Time goes away in a manner that makes it difficult to explain. I´m working on the sound of this one I think the bass and the kick are getting more in place, I have developed another subtle bass line for the first part, and I´m working in the integration hoping not messing too much the parts that are working fine. Insisting a beginner on her homely corner LOL sitting postion all day long By the way that stuff was found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ki2R9OieiY Should I post it on Conversations? Big time there...really good
You deserve it just like you brought something extra to my breakfast with your excellent track. Man I love it and apparently I'm not the only one because I've heard it mentioned more than once. Really feeling it and so creative as always, no generic formulas for Rolma. *no* Excited to hear the new version with the new changes you've mentioned. Let me know if it's a new link and I will replace the one I have in our AudioSexed Submissions So Far (Impressed) thread. Drop by if you want to hear what some of the other excellent entries sound like.
