the Ryzen 9 5950X only supports max 3200MHz RAM. so there is no point going for anything higher (as eg. 4000MHz), right?

Which mainboard do you use ? On their website there is always a list to download with the recommended RAMS ?
So be sure to check the list to see what the mainboard supports.

Gigabyte Aorus X570 (not sure which of the 4 models yet) but i just googled around and found the actual limit for the RAM frequency is rather limited by the CPU and not by the mobo.

I have used 32GB G.Skill RipJaws V schwarz DDR4-3600 DIMM CL18 Dual Kit with Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2, So.AM4, ATX and Ryzen 7 5700G, didnt overvolt or overclock the RAM sticks, works fine as it is.

Also the mainboard has compatibility charts on the manufacture homepage, check these.
