Yeh Curious to Mr Anonymous you can have all the high end Gear in the World, but if used improperly won't do a thing! i think Samples or References is the key here

  6. Wow, what a great idea and opportunity that goes such a long way in worth both to each party involved, like a perfect circle as any great business idea should and could possibly be. It's like sending your tracks or tunes on the greatest vacation imaginable (think Fantasy Island of 80's TV fame), and as like any time one goes away as such, it is always incumbent to put upon the traveller when they return the obligatory show in pictures and/or video documenting and sharing their wonderful time spent away. It would be utterly fantastic to see either in order to visualize in eye your studio space, and could only add value and credence to the adventure. And yes, your ancient and loved desk tantalizes both eye and ear!

Exactly. And the fact that I can't even find a link to SoundCloud or some sort of A/B comparison is a little concerning as well....

Interesting, yesterday I have seen something very similar to these offer. I will try to find the link and share it when I get back to my PC - that guy had photos of him in his studio and links to soundcloud with the examples.

This is an interesting idea and offer, here`s what came to my mind first:

assuming 99,99% do not know how hardware units really sound like,

    1. how to make sure the units are not emulations or nebula setups ?

    2. how to know which unit matches track of choice best ?

    3. how to know which sound should be supported with a specific unit,
hot, clean, emphasize transients, emphazise body and so on ?

As far as this offer and idea goes,
one need to have a very clear vision in advance on what sound to archive
and therefore one needs to know how hardware units do sound like.

A strategy could be to prelisten with an emulation or nebula setup
in order to get an idea where to go, but I know by experience,
a hardware unit sounds totally different and it is going to be like night and day.
Not always to the best and not on all units but most of them.

I am a bit lost on how to take the offer ... my only idea atm is,
the owner of these hardware units gets a writing with sound sketch(es)
and transfers it to a unit of choice with proper settings,
matching color, dynamics, genre and so on.
Or at least gives rough examples where units tend to go
and what they are known for, what genre they match, what instrument etc.

On the other hand I could also say, this offer and idea is so fresh (for me),
(if the units are really hardware) I am simply not prepared to dig it atm.
This could be true as well.

Do the maths he would at most do 6 jobs a day, who works for $30 per day and that's not counting overhead costs.

no offence but this is total bullshit....

look at that kit list, 1000's and 1000's worth of vintage classic gear and hes hustling for $5 here and there....lol

no pictures, no a/b comparisons etc

i bet hes made a fortune off a lot of gullible fools...

in fact the more i read the kit list the more i laugh at this idea...

if this guy is genuine where is his official webpage showing ALL that gear in action and a list of happy customers with references??? especially at $5 a pop????

"if something sounds too good to be true, . . . . " you fill in the blank

if you have some completed reference material to demo that may help?

Yes like I said earlier a/b comparisons are coming as well as some gear porn. I just made a new Soundcloud so a/b will be a day or two. I just started doing this after I saw some studios charge a ridiculous amount to just process tracks. I agree some visual aspect to show the customer when I process the tracks would help like detailing what gear was used with pics as well as different settings but processing tracks is one thing maybe 10 minutes of my time but detailing each step is another and I think that would constitute more than 5 maybe in the future I will offer such service but I started this as way to help out some people that can't afford this gear and a way to make a Lil extra cash while I make my album for a Sony Imprint. Sure I could charge more but I use fiverr all the way so it was kinda my way to give back. The high end gear is like SSL boards Chandlers and thermionic and a few others is from a studio I run in Orlando but the Redd 47 Fairchild 670 and a few others clones I have made from the schematics as well as a little help from groupdiy. When the customer sends the track I play thru it I let them choose what gear they want but of course after reviewing the track I make recommendations if needed. I will have a/b comparisons of each unit as well as pics posted soon but I just started this the other day and need time to get everything in order. What are some other issues one may have? Or what could I do to make this service better? Any help or criticism is very appreciated.

So I had this same idea a few years ago but quickly abandoned it because in short, it's impossible! You'll be shooting in the dark trying to give every customer exactly what they want or to even get close to it... at that point the amount of work you've put into getting what they want has far surpassed the price you've put on your time...

Example: I send you a drum track, I want it to have some "classic Neve warmth", you run it through one of your Neve processors, and send it back to me. I say close but could you make it hit a little harder, maybe don't use the Neve and instead just go straight through the SSL...

At this point, your second go around you have definitely used more than 5-10 minutes of your time... also any track you run through this gear then has to be jigsawed back into their original mix, which they will inevitably blame your addition of processing for ruining and refuse to pay...

That's another thing: payment... how would that happen to assure customer satisfaction? Would they pay upfront then you do your shot-in-the-dark magic? Or do you risk being had by letting them pay on the backend? Either way there's so much potential for fuckery to occur, which is why this sort of thing can't work online... If you had a contingent of locals that would like analog processing then the equation becomes easier. Sort of. If there are local people who would want analog gear for their tracks, chances are they already know a guy or they just use the emulations... at this point digital emulations are nearly as good as their analog counterparts

Here is the link I mentioned above.

There is only one video and one photo (in the main section)but at least you can see the guy and his gear + there is more than 2500 comments/reviews and bellow there are 4 more videos of him offering different tips of services.
