Hi everybody, i have the oportunity to get a seaboard rise 49 (inkl. software) like new for 800.-Eur!
please tell me what you think? should I? is it worth and is it a good price? deadline for my decision is allready tomorrow evening,feb 3rd 2022!

That's a somewhat good price. I would love to own one, but I don't think we will ever see any future support for them as Roli seems to be a dead company.

Do you think you will have much use for MPE? In that case; buy it!

Try to play on one and then make a decision, it doesn't for me have any relation to the feel that I've become accustomed to over a lifetime of playing. It is very cool though and one can play much more expressively than with what we've all gotten used to. MPE is marvelous.

 

No doubt a cool keyboard. Is this the one that can do pitch bending just "bending" the finger on the note?
Personally, the first I think about this fancy-advanced keyboards is how much they last.
Also some solid references or if you can at east try it like Lois said.

 

I would not buy it, personally. it will become very hard to get parts for. even if you want to go so far as cannibalize another one for parts, they did not make very many of them; so even finding one that is "junk" will be a task.

 

ok,but as i have chosen my girlfriend i was also aware that i will not find spareparts for the case that she brakes
so, i want to say the reason for buying or not depends not on thoughts like what if, and when the seaboard brakes.
i know that i wil take care of it, so that it will stay in good condition, and when some days there will be problems, im confident that we will find a solution. just as with my girlfriend

 

on a normal item, some general type of used hardware to get a rough estimate I will look on reverb or guitar center type websites. %60 is the max they would pay for any item you can find more than one of. So call that 1500 usd x .6 = average trending resale price. that is what you will get if you sell it and do not have time for it to sit around waiting to sell.

if you plan on keeping it permanently, then it is an 800 euro dice roll to see if it breaks. finding an alternative isn't really a great option if you want one of them. but it's a decent way to evaluate a real price, and definitely to remove some urgency. " I can buy four of them for that price" will save you money no matter what. My guesswork math though, would tell me that 660 euros would be the price I would like normally. That 90 euros difference is the seller's margin, approximately.. now you can see what is good/bad deal easily.

(I can only get here the 25 for 700€ to compare )

but ... for this price you would also get 2 Sensel morphes with Keyboard Layout (646€ at schneidersladen.de)(when they are back at stocks )

also MPE with more possibilities

 

I would say yes go for it - they are amazing keyboards - you will get used to it very quickly and then realise normal keyboards are two dimensional. Roli was just bought out by Luminary this year so they will be ok for parts for some time - they aren't stopping production

Definitely. I got one (full price) last year, and use it constantly in addition to my other keyboards. I use it MUCH more than I ever thought I would. It did have a problem when it arrived, and Roli fixed it without question and no problems since. Equator2, the software, is really great—pretty advanced program, allowing input of my own samples and waves, plus huge library. Took a bit to get used to playing it, but well worth it. The more I play it, the more I want to use it. Good luck.

One more thing…i also considered the sensel morphs, and found that the 49 keyboard was much more valuable to me.

 

I have the Smaller version. I absolutely love it and use it with a light block and play block. Its weird to get used to but MPE rocks.

 

what kind of problem did you have when it arrived, that roli fixed? i ask because i read so many times that the support is very bad

You're in good company. I would have advised you to buy it too. 'Skippy' Lehmkul has one and I remember when he got it, he raved about it..

They were taken over by Luminary who will continue to provide all the servicing and parts needed as well as updates to software.
