This year marks the 30th year Anniversary of the Roland D-50.
Roland has decided to released in small form the Original D-50 called the the
Roland D-05 from the New Roland Boutique.

I have the original Roland D-50 from the first day it was released
and to be honest I never get tired of the sounds it makes.

Doesn't sound bad with its full-metal box, poly step sequencer and that nice green-on-black lcd.
Some of the latest Roland gear was rather expensive ... too expensive to be interesting for me, but let's see where they'll set the price.

Well, it's awkward as balls to use (even browse) so prolly the hardware is less annoying in that way? It looks like it, anyway...

I know that the VST will not load sysex directly it has to be converted to a different format.
The D-05 will load sysex natively.

Ive seen D50's on ebay sell for around that price or lower. I bought a D550 for $250 a few years back.

    Nice. How was the condition?

  13. Boutique Form Factor...Definately a 21st century phenomenon. You gotta love the joystick for the fun-Ness of it. There is the cleaned up version of the keyboard at the push of a button, but it seems to kind of defeat the beauty and the sweetness that the unit is originally and naturally loved for and is a main reason I would ever contemplate buying this thing, which I'm sure that I won't be doing anyway.

Close but without some warm sound character and depth of sound original d50 have. With some patches, this is more obvious than with others.

Me personally think it's great. I mean I paid a lot for my D-50 and this is a lot cheaper. True no keyboard, but space wise a winner in my book. Also it has all of the Roland sound cards in side of it.

Apart from a little rack rash on the top of the case, it was in perfect condition. I actually ended up selling it for more than what I paid for it.

By the way, dont get me wrong. I think the boutique version is pretty cool. If you're just looking for D50 sounds and dont need a full size keyboard, personally I would look for a cheap D550. It is kind of a big rack unit so if you're worried about space, the boutique makes more sense plus you can connect to it via usb if you need to.

Jeez, u gotta worry about rash on ur rack nao? OMG ppl think being a slut is easy!

  21. I like the small package because we most of us have a limited space budget and must make a little go a long way. We don't need no stinkin' keyboards, nope. And about rug rash, I haven't felt the need to screw my outboard into the rack but rather put this velvet fabric in between each 19" unit. No rack rash here.
