i cant wait for the rest of the roland line to be made into vsts. the boutique series is very suspect to be a vst release eventually

Roland has licensed their original GM sound set to Apple, where it became part of Quicktime in the 1990s. So you don't need to buy anything, if you want that frozen 80s sound aesthetics. I'm not sure if it's part of Quicktime for Windows though.

Wow. WayBack machine. SoundCanvas was a decent GM sample base for MIDI playback in the early to mid 90's. I was still using a 4 track Tascam casette mixer/recorder, but I admit I was behind the times.

 

And you're not alone. This synth was somthing like the beginning of music making in the digital era. The super fan part is trying to create something good with it (just like Play-Doh) and is not easy at all. I've actually seen challenges/competitions in other forums where you had to create the best mock-up using just this. How about that?

But there's a big difference between the 1MB wavetable in QuickTime/Windows and the > 60MB of this VST here.
