Visually it's not the most sexy VST... will check some audio demos, that's more important.... but hard (not) to find on website?

 

Isn't sound canvas a really crappy gm sound set?

 

Nice GUI, easy on the eyes.
Hopefully the sound will be on par with the GUI.

EDIT: On Roland's website, it says that 250 MB is needed on the HD... for 1600 sounds!

At the time, I owned a 'Sound Canvas SC-88' (which was great in its time !), but it's true that without any specific Editor to 'shape' the sounds manually it was a bit boring... then have come specific (Hardware) Synth Editors like 'MidiQuest SoundQuest Pro', and here things changed drastically, believe me !

General MIDI is a set of instructions and by definition is *not* a crappy sound set. GM is a list of numbers (as well as other things) that select the correct tones for playback. Yes, you can get good and bad sound but General MIDI overall is *not* bad. Ignorance of the facts and then spouting off isn't clever. Indeed the Roland SC88 and 88Pro (if you knew what you're doing) were fantastic pieces of kit and I look forward to seeing what this VSTi is like.

 

I have this for iPad and a real sc55...
The real one is much more better indeed.
With Lógic editor it have his value when clients come with their midis...

It seems like a soft synth for GS or SC-* MIDIs and most likely Roland's MusicData platform. I also guess it's the same thing as the iOS version released a year ago. And like Roland says:

Exactly, for "playback", but not as a synth for creating non-standard MIDIs (or even audio) in the first place.

I still have an SC-D70 (equivalent to SC-8820). If this VSTi sounds the same, great.

just to be clear, I'm well used to GM sound banks, so when I tested this particular VSTi, It sounded just like GM... so It sounded preatty nice, for GM (I'm reffering here on sound quality)

GM bad or good!? ...It's at it is, that's clear
Quality of GM (sound fidelity), that's another pair of shoes...

nevertheless, next time I'm using "GMIDI sound banks at It's finest"
