    Hi Friends

Just having fun with the new plugin and I need to know where to find the patches from all the expansion cards that were released at the time of the hardware.

There is a good webpage that lists the SR-JV-80 cards here:

    http://www.planet-groove.com/roland/expansion.html

Surely they are out there somewhere!

If anyone knows please help

  5. Some more.. http://www.sysexdb.com/synth_detail.aspx?dv=87

This was never my kind of keyboard. I always thought of it as a trained, giging piano player type of tool. Maybe I am waaaay off base, but it is not really for any real sound design. It sounds great though.

Those expansion cards have different samples on them than what was included in any of the JV or XV series modules ( although the JV1010 had the Session card on board), so unless Roland has also included the samples from the SR cards in the plugin, the patches from those cards won't be of much use to you anyway.

I understood the plugin has all "expansion cards" included? Am I wrong?

Agree with @yabiss Roland are not stupid... they're not gonna release the JV-1080 with all the xpansion card sound.... thats just impossible. But one thing for sure we'll them in a near future as many are asking them... so its part of the course of things and marketing. I myself want all of them as I own the Roland JV 1080 and has some expansion cards (the hardware of course) and this synth was part of my growing module as musician, I know its sound patch by heart. This is where I learn Sound Design etc...

Patience & Happy New year 2018 of HEALTH and lots of xpansions hahahaha ;-)

Would be nice if someone do already have them out there and are compatible with this Roland release never know

Why not? The 1080 plugin is actually more or less identical to the XV-5080 to begin with, and includes all the 5080 waveforms at 5080 quality, not just the smaller 1080 wave list, and the 5080 presets. So they didn't just hold the specs back at 1080 spec, they went way further.

Also the samples are a "Bin" file of 33.6 MB in the plugin - exactly the same size and format as the SRX card expansion downloads Roland make available for free for certain synths.

So I think it's perfectly possible that they will make the SR/SRX expansion waves available at some point.

Of course they could release all expansions at once, but I bet they rather re-release old stuff in tiny little "new" products in order to make more money from it.

Those fuckers @ Roland should take a look at the Korg Legacy M1 released over a decade ago!

    It came with all expansions!

    Fuck you Roland!

Side note: WTF is with EVERY patch drenched in reverb!!! There’s no way the original had the patches that wet.

I have several expansion cards. I still have my JV1080 but really haven't bothered to look at the data on the cards. I assumed there were different samples on the card, with many different patches. Don't expect Roland to give them away though. I wonder if there would be a chance that my expansions could somehow be converted for load in the Roland VST. Hmmmm :dunno:

They actually were that wet, but was real easy to cut, or adjust fx. I had to make adjustments all the time, but you have to understand when this was released and the music that was over produced at the time, plus it helped sell the product on demos.

    I'm pretty sure it's possible
There is a way to do a sysex dump of a bank from the 1080 but then I'm not sure about the PCM waves.
Will need to consult the manual....
LOL original manual for 1080 is like a phonebook
software manual is like a few pages.

Could not find any info on:
    1. what are the extra waveforms that are included on top of the original inbuilt waves and where the hell are they from?
    2. Where are the preset patches from all? are some old and some new or are some from some of the old expansions?
    3. Are they providing any further patch banks than the presets?
    4. 1080 hardware does General Midi, do they include it?
5 Does it load sysex from a real 1080?

For this reason I am not too happy with this software being like a real JV1080
What about people who want to replace their ageing hardware with the software but need the patches from one of these expansion cards!?

    Damn THEM!

    1. The extra waveforms are in the ROMS on the expansion card hardware.
    2. The expansion cards had a bank of presets that used the expansion waves. The factory presets in the synth only use waves in the synth (ie, no expansion waves).
    3. No info
    4. There is no GM mode as such, and the plugin is not multitimbral - use multiple instances to sequence it.
    5. No sysex import at this time

It's possible that Roland will release further expansions for the plugin later on, but there is no official info for this at this time. They already offer free SRX expansion downloads for a range of their modern synths, so it should be possible to add this to the plugin in time.
