First, Roland, the synthesizer belongs to them (copyright), was asked whether they would allow the use of their blueprints and under what conditions they would agree to the replication of hardware and software.

The analog then essentially becomes digital. Of course, the replication of the original will not be like the original; it will sound different and probably have more polyphony and effects than the original. The JP-8000 is an emulation of the original.

DSP56300 Emulator is an open source project to emulate hardware synthesizers that use(d) the Motorola DSP56300 series of DSPs. The initially available Osirus plugin emulates the Access Virus B & C. Please note that the download includes ONLY the DSP Emulator as ROMs cannot be included due to copyright reasons.

Isn't it illegal what you are doing?

A: The emulation itself is not illegal. Sharing of the hardware ROMs is illegal though. What this means is that a user will need to provide the ROM file of a synthesizer that it wants to emulate. It works similar to game console emulators, where the emulator itself cannot execute any game until you provide a ROM of it.

 

this is Arturia's interpretation of the JP-8000 synth, like they have done for other hardware synths. We shall see how good it sounds, especially from those who have the hardware to compare side by side. If it's very close to the real thing, then it's good enough, for me at least.

Seeing that Roland may've likely given Arturia endorsement to make the emulation/plug-in, perhaps they're doing it (hopefully) by the books using reverse engineered OG software magic, or something.

Probably not, Arturia's VST model is based on TAE their own engine. That way it's easier to collect all models under a unique VST like Analog Lab.

When it does finally go online (especially if it has video walkthroughs) the amount of people waiting and clicking on it will probably crash the site and server in the first 30 seconds, then it will a wait for the server/site to come back up

Eh, well it's about what i expected. an Arturia interpretation of the JP8000, but it doesn't sound much like the real thing to be honest. I'm starting to realise Arturia reuses a lot of algos for stuff. the envelope isn't modelled on the Jp8000 as it doesn't have the infamous "click" when you set the attack just slightly off, and the release is wrong plus, i am not sure how the filter sounds even more tinny than the 8000/8080, but it does. this sounds more like other Arturia synths than it does a JP8000. if they was doing their own thing they probably should've interpreted the 8080 as at least then you'd have something similar-ish to the vocoder in it
