    ABBA

  5. Abba already was inducted in 2010.

Public Enemy would be my choice of those not on the list

Radiohead and Todd Rungren are my frontrunners from the list, with Roxy Music and MC5 as outliers. If they give it John Prine it would be nice as he is now as old as sand and hasn't much time left in his hourglass.

One of my fav Roxy Music tunes...Brian Ferry on clarinet in the intro.

The Cure are still influencing music today. They were also the first alternative band to make it big.

  19. Ooooooops. Dankon pro indiki la eraron de mia vojo. Mindfart, my brain cut the cheese.

  20. I agree. The induction means absolutely zilch and is just a big money making scheme created by Ahmet Erdegun (RIP). It is far from a transparent process, and those who are winners as well as those in the running are chosen whimsically by the judges, and although most of the artists and bands that are chosen are well respected in the industry and have great fan devotion, at the end of the day it is all just a head trip for all involved in the process.

The award might be gimmicky, but Erdegun was anything but! He was passionate about music and those that create it as well as fulfilling the need of a listening public that craves great art.

“There’s a black man living in the outskirts of Opelousas, Louisiana. He works hard for his money; he has to be tight with a dollar. One morning he hears a song on the radio. It’s urgent, bluesy, authentic and irresistible. He can’t live without this record. He drops everything, jumps in his pickup and drives twenty-five miles to the first record store he finds. If we can make that kind of music, we can make it in the business.” If anyone finds interest in finding out about who he was and what made him tick, this is a really good read on him as well as how and why the music industrial complex started and it's trajectory till the present.

    Ahmet Erdegun
