hi im watching a dance music tutorial.
the guy says he normally has his kick around -15 rms.
thats first thing he does in the mixing stage. on my channel for kick, the reading below the meter is -15.5.
    is that rms?
i know this is a basic question, dont need the "read manual","youtube is your friend" replies.
on here is always best for knowledge.
    thanks

No, it should be the peak. RMS is an older standard that was replaced by Loudness Units (LU) some time ago. In Cubase, the Master Meter has basic RMS metering. If you need more than this, you might want to use a proper metering plug-in like TBProAudio's free dpMeter.

Cubase has a loudness meter, switch to the loudness tab located at the bottom of the master meter, beyond that you can use Supervision if you need more detailed metering.

while being in the project window:

CTRL+ALT+R >> Meter (its the last tab on the right)

Here's for you what we cubasers call THE BIG METER. Its not dangerous though, dont be scared.
It can also float wherever you want (be careful) and resized how long as you wish...

you should see by default the MASTER TAB which gives you both RMS and PEAK

Cubase has great stock meters, no third party app is needed. Even the analyzers in Supervision are very good, even the VU meter is pretty decent. In my experience it lacks only a CREST FACTOR meter, hopefully it will be added soon.
