I am looking to finally replace my old mbox1 with either an new MBOX PRO or a RME Fireface 400. Which would you recommend. I love my Digi 002 and my RME Digiface. The new box would be mainly for remote location recordings. I also have an octopre I could use only with the FF 400 so that's where I am leaning. Are the clocks, converters and pres on the FF 400 better that on the MBOX PRO? I am guessing they are. Comments and suggestions? Thanks!! R

Can't speak from my own experience but I heard that RMS FF clocks and converters are better than MBOX Pro ones.

Having read about the serious mbox pro fireware issues, RME seems like the way to go. I have read he RME FF is usually proported to have better converters. Wish there was a way to a/b test them without buying them.

Well... If you were only using a mac I would tell you to go with the Apogee Duet, the converters and mic pre's are amazing... But the RME Fireface converters and mic pre's are pretty good too, but it's way more expensive than the FF.

And how can the MOTU Interfaces compete with the above mentioned?
Thinking about the new hybrid interfaces, like the Ultralite MK3.

    FYI
I use the M-Audio ProFire 2626 which has very good price/quality value.

The Apogee Duet is a rock solid interface!

All current audioproducts with ASIO drivers are great these days. Talent and new music can shine with any of those units.

Well I have now used the Profire 2626 and it hasn't failed yet (at least not in a big way) BUT the converters are not very good and the mic pre's are plasticky and lack headroom, although some guy in your local audio store says they are the same preamps as in the octane preamp, they are not!

But it's still much better than the digi 002 rack version as I had before the 2626. Now that's real crap ;)
