Tony was the most influential acoustic guitar player in the Bluegrass scene, anybody and everybody in awe of both his lead work as well as his prowess when playing rhythm. He had the perfect singing voice for the genre and the personality to match. He owned Clarence White's heavily modified D-28, the one with the soundhole widened considerably and played the shit out of it for 30 years. 69 years old is far to soon to loose this treasure bestowed upon us, one Tony Rice, but there it is. RIP Freeborn Man.

If anyone is interested, this article is the story of his D-28, a good read for those that like this kind of thing.

Bookmarked (due to the big wave) but thanks. Though I make mostly techno, I listen to mostly bluegrass. Best book I read last year was Clapton's Guitar: Watching Wayne Henderson Build the Perfect Instrument by Allen St. John. Fantastic read, even for someone like me who doesn't play or have much interest in the guitar.

I love this song and wish I had a Henderson but make due with a couple of Martins, a D-18 and a D-15M plus my '92 Roy Noble Cedar/Madagascar, but would trade them all in for a Wayne Henderson.

Scroll down a tiny bit for the Soundcloud link for My Henderson Guitar.

It wouldn't be a Lois thread without an electron-microscope level of guitar details / love! My fingers had sympathy pains with (Mandolin?) playing on cheese-cutter strings. Lovely sounds; played and sung twice as fast as humans are designed for! ;____; rest in peace.

The Devil's in the details while an Angel blurs the lines.

Well that was great. Now I wanna see the picture he made to get the guitar.

From what I can tell, if you don't hang out in Wayne's workshop, you just aren't getting one. No amount of money will buy you one.
