DJ Robert Miles, best known for his trance hit Children, has died at the age of 47 after a short illness.
The Italian musician topped the charts in 12 countries with the track, which was first released in 1995 and reached number two in the UK in 1996.
He also won the Brit Award for best international breakthrough act in 1997.
Pete Tong led the tributes to the DJ, who died in Ibiza, tweeting: "Sad to hear Robert Miles passing. RIP, thanks for the music."
Singer Boy George wrote: "R.I.P Robert Miles. Very sad news!"
The news was broken by producer and longtime friend Joe T Vannelli, who wrote on Instagram: "The tragic news of the death of a very talented artist of our time makes me incredulous and upset.
"I will miss the fights, brawls, criticism, judgements but especially your talent in finding sounds and unparalleled melodies."

Miles was born Roberto Concina in Switzerland on 3 November 1969 to Italian parents.
After finding mainstream success with Children, he had two further UK top 10 singles - Fable and One & One - and went on to release five albums.
He also launched a Balearic radio station called Open Lab, which played experimental music.
Other figures in the dance music community to pay tribute included Darude, whotweeted: "RIP Robert Miles. Thank you for the inspiration, direction & courage!"
Armin van Buuren said: "Really in shock to hear the news of the passing of Robert Miles," while Chicane wrote: "I only played 'Children' 2 weeks ago on Sun:sets.... I wished I had written it."

I was working for a few shots of the first version of the Children video, on the Lausanne to Geneva highway (Switzerland). Robert wasn't there but we met later. A very down to earth guy, though his fame in Europe was just incredible in the 90's, just like Giorgio Moroder in the 70's or Michael Cretu in the 80's.
Still so young.... very sad.

His first and second albums are the best. Second one is as part II for the first album, more variety of styles, light breaks with that 90's dream trance. Posterior albums have more rock, breaks/trip-hop and ethnic vibes with experimental electronic, trance, psychedelic and ambient. Such as third album "Organik", but my favorite one. Album collaborated with Gurtu ("miles_gurtu"), a fourth one, is fully experimental, jazzy and ethnic. The Latest "Thirteen" is more about psychedelic and progressive rock with experimental ambient electronic.

RIP Robert. I like all your recordings, but many thanks for Organik album, which I am always inspired by, and first two albums, which became a classic for electronic pop, trance and house music and all EDM scene. Thanks for mystic of THIRTEEN album.

Michael Cretu also created good music in the 90's, his project ENIGMA, but posterior albums of Enigma was not so amazing. Even the eighth one, 2016, is a mixture of 90's Enigma style with EDM Trap / Dubstep stuff.

Actually very sad. At first I was thinking of John Miles who was famous for his hit 'Music,' and thought he couldn't
have been 47. But yes, Robert Miles was very original along with others mentioned, who gave us the idea of electronic, ambient music.
