Today Native Instruments announced the KOMPLETE 14 bundle with Kontakt 7 and lots of new sound content. It is immediately noticeable that there are no updates for classics again. More precisely, no updates for Absynth 5, FM8, etc.
If you take a closer look, you can see that Native Instruments has kicked Absynth 5 out of its KOMPLETE portfolio. This happened without prior notice or an official statement. Just disappeared from the official store as well as from the Classics bundle that was available from Plugin Boutique.

Not bringing enough profit, I guess. Every decision stupid company managers make, be it bad or not for the customer, is tightly connected to venn diagrams and profit, nothing else. Always more and more and more. I honestly don't understand why it's not enough to just make any profit, but constantly, which they must do [so many things in their portfolio, lots of hardware made in China for chips and sold here for 200% profit...]. I don't posses a capitalist mind set.

that is understandable, but at some point putting human programming hours into perpetual development of a 20 yr old synth can be a lot of duplicated work and free support. Eventually they have to move on too, so its hard to get too negative about it.

Yes it is a shame from Native Instruments.

But there is now better than Absynth, a kind of evolution of Absynth (huge evolution)... by the creator of Absynth himself!

Brian Clevinger, who was the creator of Absynth, opened a new company a few years ago, Rhizomatic Software Synthesis, and created a new synth named Plasmonic which takes up many aspects of Absynth with the addition of many, many, many improvements. And this synth is fully alive!

And I can say... it sounds absolutely fantastic!

    It is here:
    https://rhizomatic.fr/

A demo of the brand new version 1.2 :

It's been years that Native Instruments don't dare to confess that they in fact have totally abandoned Absynth and FM8, putting all their R&D mainly on Kontakt (and its plethora of samples) and Massive. And I doubt that Reaktor will survive much longer.

I get it, but thats just the nature of a retail business. In the grand scheme of things comparably 100 or 200% is not that high. Low cost wholesale pricing isnt exclusive to China or any other country. Every country is capable of both garbage and high quality products, China just has the ideal combo of a large hard working labor force with comparatively very low cost of living, and especially cutting edge technology in electronics. Its just math. Generally, you get what you pay for but. For example, shoes, jeans other clothes, eye glasses, furniture and such are typically 500%-1000%. Prescription medicine in some regions of the world is often marked up an absurdly disgusting 6000% or more.

I have spent thousands on NI products but, once I discovered their resale and update/support policies for some products and the fact that some hardware still hasnt been updated for Win 11 use, its not in my best interest to invest in their products anymore.

Interesting, will check it out! But I noticed "There is no support for offline activation." .. unfortunately, my studio PC/DAW is strictly offline, no exceptions. Oh well.

Reaktor isn't going anywhere. I could possibly see them taking down the User Library (or even turning it into a subscription) because I'd imagine it's not cheap to host 6,000+ ensembles, but they're still making money off it.

Besides, Reaktor is what started NI in '95 - '96. No way they would ever gut it.

I like Plasmonic, but it is a different beast. If NI could release that IP back to Clevinger and he released a new and improved Absynth... I can dream, can I?

I look forward to whatever Clevinger brings next.

Plasmonic is not meant to be an evolution of Absynth. It's a different idea that shares some similarities because of being from the same developer. Even before this announcement Brian had commented on wanting to make another synth that intentionally would be an evolution of Absynth. I think there might have been some hesitancy because of not wanting to step on NI and the old product.

Hopefully that idea gets some more traction now. It would be great to see a proper successor to Absynth.

Absynth is still here and many of the users still using it . 'Mutate' is one best thing this synth has .

Native Instrumenst has lost a lot a software engineers (see how MassiveX is struggling) and I don t see a new, good product ...

    Too bad ...

Absynth was originally released by Rhizomatic in 2000. ;)

If you look at it this way, Absynth didn't really change a whole lot over its lifetime and Brian knows it inside and out. They probably don't have anyone that could handle it after he left and just decided to scrap it. There's nobody better to make a successor to it than him.

Idk, I don't think software engineers is what Massive X needs, it legitimately sounds fantastic, it's main problem is in its absolutely dreadful UI/UX. Like, seriously, this is *the flagship synth* of a behemoth of a company like Native Instruments in 2022 and it has practically no visual feedback throughout. It's frankly silly, but if they could give it a makeover and desperately needed shake up I think a lot more people would be keen to use it. In its current state, visually polished and premium products like Phase Plant, Serum, Vital, Pigments, etc all make it a very very tough sell.

NI changed its business model in 2019.
Native Instruments sales rise to more than 100 million euros despite Corona crisis.

    NEWS.SEPTEMBER 4, 2019
Native Instruments laid off around 100 employees in one day last week, a 20% share of its total workforce.
This is part of the new 'One Native' strategy, the Berlin-based company has now confirmed.

I really don't understand peoples criticisms of MASSIVE X's sound engine. it's one of the best sounding VSTI's ever put out IMO, and on paper it's objectively steps ahead of a lot of other VSTI's given it's entire signal path is actual audiorate, not table based (cough cough Phaseplant)but the UI is pretty horrendous. i would of preferred something in the vein of the first one, just a bit more minimal
