Father of the English Blues. His bands where platforms for the best musicians. His LP "Jazz-Blues Fusion" is an all-time favorite to me.

RIP. Thank you for the blues, all I can say.

    A statement from his family:

I highlighted the part that I think we all can agree to.

The second album I ever bought when I was 13 was John Mayall's Back To The Roots because hilariously I thought that his sax player Johnny Almond was in the Allmann Brothers. I was also first turned onto a guy named Eric Clapton who blew my mind.

The album is incredible and of course the music is great but it was the lyrics of many of his songs that most impressed me and dare I say influence my writing to this day.

Uuuuuhhhh ... One of my first 5 records I had was John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. So John Mayall was a friend to me all my life ... RIP.

    P.S.

He also got me to start playing harmonica along as with Neil Young.

All those legends wee see dying in these days - I got the feeling it's almost on a daily basis - made the wold a little better. So did John Mayall.

If one says we stand on the shoulders of giants, that's really hard to cope with. It's almost impossible to keep up with them.
That's why we are so sad when another legend passes by.

So farewell and resquiescat in pacem John.

Always loved the man. Had his name inked onto my school rucksack. Lots of great memories. RIP John
