Sad, sad day. Chris was THE vocalist I always aspired to sound more like. An amazing musician, vocalist, songcrafter, and by all accounts an amazing human being. This song was the first I ever heard his voice in.
The night my wife and I met, I played several of his songs to her that night in an attempt to impress her. I guess it worked!

You will be missed my friend. I am close to tears as I type this. His music and voice had such a huge impact on my life and music. He sang the songs that will stand the test of time and be sung for all eternity. The angels will be blessed to have you as a part of their choir. Godspeed my friend and may you find eternal peace.

Send Prince some of my love when you see him.

    Confirmed as suicide.
    Now it sucks even more.
He was a hero and an idol growing up in the age of grunge. His Euphoria Morning (with the amazing Natasha Schneider, also gone due to cancer, and the talented Alain Johannes) transformed me.
    All his work for charity...
Leaving wife and two kids behind..
    Ah, fuck!

Though likely not a popular opinion, I even dug some of the tracks on Scream that he did with Timbaland. It was just damn, that soulful voice!

Chris was found with "a band around his neck". Must be drug addiction. Why else would a successful musician, a father of two, kill himself? He could never really quit drugs, it seems. If not suicide, he would probably end up dying from coke like Scott Weiland did. It only shows one thing - drugs ain't no joke and no cool in dying like this, despite of someone believing it's very "rock n' roll". Nothing "rock n' roll" about a broken life. It's a tragedy. It's very sad drugs took so many talented musicians, who could live and create instead.

He could have just come to my house and recorded some songs instead. WTF?

IDK, maybe it was death trough accidental asphyxiation. (remember David Carradine?)

On June 3, 2009, at the age of 72, David Carradine was found dead in his room at the Swissôtel Nai Lert Park Hotel on Wireless Road, near Sukhumvit Road, in central Bangkok, Thailand.[3][3][80]He was in Bangkok to shoot his latest film, titled Stretch.[80] A police official said that Carradine was found naked, hanging by a rope in the room's closet,[81][82] causing immediate speculation that his death was suicide. However, reported evidence suggested that his death was accidental, the result of autoerotic asphyxiation. Two autopsies were conducted, one involving the celebrity pathologist Pornthip Rojanasunan, and both concluded that the death was not a suicide.[83][84][85][86][87] The cause of death became widely accepted as "accidental asphyxiation."

Prince.. John Entwistle the list goes on and on... the hazards of success and excess in rock 'n roll...

Saw this little band Soundgarden in an Ybor city Tampa dance club that doubled as a venue for "small" bands at the time..
even then they had a wild intensity and a big sound that said they would be on bigger stages soon...sure enough
few years later Black Hole Sun was all over the place, a real time marker for the early 90's

one more gone too soon... happy trails

The report currently is confusing. So I'll wait until the full autopsy has been done. Why I am confused? Because of these strange sentences in the same article:

His duet with Maynard James Keenan (Tool)

Although Keenan doesnt have a lead spot on that tune, everytime he sings with another singer he always shines way more than the other performer. Hunger Stike is a perfect example. You know Eddie is a great singer, but when Cornell starts up he takes the song to a whole new level.

Lennon cover. I love this one

Whether it was Robin Williams, (possible dementia), or Kurt Cobain (despair, mostly likely over inability to kick heroin)
the suicide is often the "quick fix" for some other issue... so with his history of drug abuse, he was likely tired
of being sick and tired of addiction... the belt being the one way to kick the habit.. by kicking yourself to sleep

I was at a loss with this. Totally unexpected and out of the blue. So sad!

Not only was he awesome with Soundgarden, he was also epic and hugely underrated as essentially the Zack De La Rocha replacement for Rage Against the Machine, i.e. Audioslave.

The only song that can be played loud today should be this:

The weird thing is, I was listening to Ultramega OK for the first time on the way to work today. When I got there I was told about his death.
Very strange coincidence indeed. A voice unmatched in music history that will be missed very much. :thanks::headbang:

@Herr Durr I don't want to sensationalize or derail this thread but Cobain didn't kill himself. I wrote a paper on this (my first 110%) and went to actual sources during research. The facts of his case have been so drastically altered over time it would almost be funny if it wasn't so depressing. Remember Wikipedia content can be edited by anyone and money can buy you whatever history you want.
We went (in an unofficial capacity) to pay our respects at the site almost immediately after it happened, before any remodeling was done and despite what people have written, that shed could only be locked from the outside and it had a dead-bolt meaning it couldn't be locked and pulled shut. No fingerprints (now they claim there are some but unusable) on the shotgun, pen or paper, the obvious addition to the letter (which didn't reference suicide and was a farewell to fans and his demon/muse stating his exit from the industry) and the heroin level in his blood (which wouldn't have allowed any human, no matter how tolerant to the drug, the motor capabilities to operate a shotgun). And then there's Eldon Hoke, admitting being offered money to kill Kurt then winding up dead days after revealing that information.

God. I miss all these guys.

Damn, went and hung himself ? After a successful show ? Dunno how people can twist their thoughts towards such dark places... ? I hope he's found peace. Multi talented and a never ending contributor to some excellent moments in music. RIP

and he didn't write the suicide letter left over too? who would have the motive to murder him? (besides Courtney "Love" of course)
1st I have heard of your "theory" .. but eh as I recall from the news at that time.. he had been acting pretty strangely
leading up to the day he was found...and was struggling with his addictions, multiple rehab trips etc... but just as the media today
are a slanted bunch of liars ... they always have been.. we just gave them more cred back then
( which they probably never really deserved )
