Anyone know how i can get hold of or generate the drums used in this track.

They seem distorted, especially the clap/snare

and also the lead used at 2:32 ....sounds very distorted at times.

Its got 808 snare qualities (the high sizzle in the tail). Try Tal- Bitcrusher with a mix of wet/dry to get the desired sound. Sounds like theres a short reversed clap or something leading into some of the hits. Plate reverb will accentuate these higher sizzley sounds, watch the colour settings so it doesnt roll off these higher frequencies too much.

The lead part youre talking about definitely has a multi-fx with retriggers or stutters. Try Effectrix or dB Glitch for this glitchy stuttered sound.

Finally, no thread about Rihanna is complete without a 'DAT AZZZZZ'

 

holy Crap I can actualy hear the damn autone om the vocals and how they compressed the vocals so much to try to hide it. I can also hear the aphex aural exciter on the vocals.

100% aural exciter is being used the tell tell sign of the sparkling trail

As for drums they are just really REALLY compressed, 808 all the way def a drum machine
might try to duplicate it with FL studio with the drum modules just compress the hell out of them for the plastic sound. There are many delays as well placed throughout the track on the drum tracks

Not my way of mixing since I like live bands more and not too much efx stuff just pure playing = recording = easy to play live

 

i would try some of the reggae or south type kits

Sorry for the slight thread hi-jack Firstandlast...I've tried the Waves aphex aural exciter (VERY nice)....If I was to try this using standard plugs (Studio One being my DAW). What would they be? (A vox send to a bus with Comp > EQ > Distortion)?
