So i took a challenge that I'll do a mix totally in cheap earphones . but i took a risk and did the challenge on a client's track. Fortunately, they approved it and the label approved it too.
i didn't do any car test nor did i listened to it in my monitors.
I wanted to know what you guys think of the mix, what do you think i could do better and what do you think sounds fine.
    thanks in advance

Update : The ME asked me too give him a Reference Master , i thought lets also try to ' Master ' it with Earphones. so i did it. I gave it too the Client too. but I don't know if they rock with it or not. it's still on pending

the track is in this link ( Unmastered )

    On principle pretty good.

I find the de-essing suboptimal and as a rough direction to optimize the whole balance, use a flat slope tilt filter at ~ 960Hz for a tiny amount (+dB, ofc). IOW, too much lows, a bit boomy, too less high freqs.

yeah i get what you're saying, it's a pop song, it could do a lot better with less low end. but everyone wants ' trap low end ' nowadays, and can't fight with the clients vision

That Clap/snare at the beginning is so annoying and harsh, weird how you didn't catch that?

    anyway here's the "fixed" version.

This sounds brittle and feels like all the life was sucked out of it
It's the producers sound of choice. it's not technically harsh, it's aggressive. i personally don't find it harsh. maybe because i am not so good at mixing. but , if you think it's harsh , it's harsh. whatever makes you happy man

I hope you didn't actually listen to my edit through your earphones, right? you know that earphones do not represent real world experience? and i hope your earphones are calibrated. otherwise your comment is not valid.

take it with a grain of salt, your mix is muddy and lacks crispiness vocals still require a bit of cleaning, because some of those bad frequencies are building up and interfering with the bass, and because of that the mix feels in your face and lacks depth.

As the mix engineer it is your job to take decision and fix problems, sometimes your call overrides that of the client. you have to take the objective side and be true to your job not the client, i agree you should make the client happy, but you need to explain that some decisions are for the good of the final product.

makes me happy. not sure where you're trying to go with that one, but facts are facts, my ears are that good.

not being good at mixing is something, passive aggressive tone, is something else.

when you post your mixes for feedback learn to accept it, whether it is good or bad, or don't post at all, be professional.

HiPass the vocals. Get rid of the mud. Maybe 100-150hz. Then saturate them a bit.
    Otherwise really good.

A little hars on the vocals in the 1st chorus, at the begining.
    Otherwise, good job!

Well I don't know about all that fancy stuff, but from my speakers and in my earphones i agree that the edit sounds thin.
The first one I would buy and the edit I wouldn't.
And THAT ... is ALL that matters.
    THAT is the "real world"

It probably does when you compare it to the original, although i don't agree with your input i respect it, and respect your preference, the way you verbalize your thoughts makes all the difference in the world to me, still please don't forget the fact that i had to work off of a "mastered version" before the unmastered was put available.

that being said, my point still stand.

Well, keep in mind that I am going off MY speakers and MY headphones and MY ears.
    Just one subjective anecdotal opinion.

I do like the clarity of your fix for my taste in music...
but THIS genre is not my "thing".
But IF it was, I would WANT it to be harsh in the top end ...
.. and for the bass to be in line with 1970 Buick LeSabre trunk resonance specs...

Still .... what OTHERS like (and will buy) ..is (some would say "unfortunately") the "real world" for producing music.
Thankfully I do not have to make a living in that real world ...

No one cares what noises my soldering gun makes
