I agree. Media is as bullshit as shit. Lived in Russia for some years so I do understand where you are coming from. Russians are very loving and decent people specially the tribal Russians like Kavkaz, Tatar etc. Main problem is not that many understand English and love western culture etc, but the youth are overthrowing their own culture for what is fake and sham...and that is alarming. That doesn't mean to degrade the western culture which itself is a victim of so called new age global cultism.

Thanks for a very insightful thread Von

I'd like to visit but I don't think I could live there even if I wanted to. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the Russian people. Nearly all the ones I've met here in the states are very warm and intelligent people. Just don't get on their bad side!

    A few things of interest:
Norilsk is a closed city because the largest employer (80% of all jobs), MMC Norilsk Nickel, requested so. (I leave it to your fantasy why a company wants to control a whole city)
MMC Norilsk Nickel not only is mining in Norilsk. For example, the us-american Stillwater Mining Company was a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel until they sold their shares 2010. Due to the acquisition of LionOre Mining (Southafrica) there's a Norilsk Nickel Africa. They also own the Phoenix Mine in Botswana and many more.
Norilsk Nickel had a net income of $1.7 billion in 2015.
Norilsk Nickel is just one of many companies run by Vladimir Potanin, through his conglomerate Interros.
You've seen enough images to get an impression of the city. Therefore I show you what images MMC Norilsk Nickel uses to promote themselves (to not leave a doubt: I find it disgusting that they use fake idyll to pretend there is no pollution):

That 20th Century Russian (CCCP) architecture is not beauty. It is to depress. To sadden.
    Nice post, Von Steyer.

  9. More like a China Mieville sci-fantasy to me. If you haven't experienced the space that he creates you owe it to yourself to take in his fantastic renderings of feelings, ideas and alternate realism. The best of the best of the most beautific/horrific imagination this side of purgatory.

I respect Russians, great people, but i have to agree with you on the architecture.
Soviet architecture did a lot of damage to a lot of Eastern European cities, building flats and official buildings that just dont fit with the old style of European architecture.
Old style of European architecture was built strategically and methodically with beautiful curves and details.
The Soviet era architects put some of the ugliest cold, cube style buildings and flats within the same cities and it clashes and destroys the harmony of certain areas or in some cases most of the cities.
They could have taken a different route, though its evident the only purpose was to build cheap and fast.
Still in Soviet Union architects built some very interesting or even amazing buildings as posted in the other thread by @Yuri .

  12. That and creative coughing techniques to bring up the phlegm. I thought living in Manhatten, NYC in the 1980's was bad, but this seems horrific. I used to wash out my nose with a Nettie pot when I got home from being out and about to flush out the blackened particles that were captured up my schnoz.. Here one might need a lung bath on a daily basis or replacement after 15 or 20 years. They can do that now, right?

That sounds pretty terrible. Well, if they can do a lobe replacement, sign me up! They had to remove one of mine (just 1 lobe) exactly one year ago, from some pneumonia episode over 10 years ago! :-( So, I will not be smoking anything ever again.

  14. Sorry to hear that my Brother. Things must be forever different in bluerover land. Lung pain is highly specialized pain. I punctured my right lung for no apparent reason about 17 years ago and which was incredibly and horribly painful, but when some really inexperienced apprentice doctor wasn't happy with how my lung was refilling and coming back to shape and size after the third day and hooked me up to an air pressure machine to facilitate his wish, I can without a doubt, none whatsoever, say that I was never in so much pain in my life, and I have been in some goodly bad predicaments. All I could do was barely move my lips and try to say to my friend Michelle, "Make him stop". You are a fucking beast to go through what you have. You must have overshot the reality threshold where a single moment is made real and stretches out towards infinity kind of pain. I can only hope that things have become a new normal and it isn't as bad as it started out as. Blessings to you, blessings.

this definitely took me back to Bladerunner Universe , without all them bicycles and tricycles

definitely a place to haul-up in some small apartment during a heavy winter ,with your musicmaking laptop a couple of vsti and start making that next industrial/rave/psy/progressive masterpiece , going to work will be necessary but think of it just as a distraction , a means to an end (where end is pay bills food etc) until you get back home turn on the heater and keep on making that track. Desperation, gloominess, the dark of the future, lol compare the inspiration ,would being on some beach of the carribean lying on a sandy beach with a couple of top models hugging and kissing you while you are sipping your beer and smoking some of the finest be any better ? ( well unless you solely produce happy tropical stuff with ready cymatics templates adding a couple of your loopmasters downloaded wav's instead of the templates ones and use that fancy latest compressor empressor i think on the main buss to spice things up and give it your personal touch and creativity ;p)

Every post-Ussr minor city looks same.[IMG]

    As example my own city:

    You can call Satan. ^

    Example of epic suicide ^.

Don't get me wrong. I love my city. It was one of the most important cities for Ussr from "cold war" time.
But after Ussr gone, it's just a hardly-living example of human greed and stupidity.
I guess there are much better options for traveling. Peace.
