hello, been almost two years without a pc, but with music always in my heart. now, i was listening to some old tunes and i was wondering, how would you recreate this sound? it's the synth that plays around 1:20. there is more than one instance/other notes being played.
but how to give it that characteristic? i thought also of a formant filter, but i think it might just be the synth+resonance sweet spot?
keep in mind, the track was made around '94 i believe.

Use a saw oscillator as a starting point. Add a bandpass (keytracked) and increase the resonance a lot. Finetune the cutoff to your liking.

Additionally: If you want a move "vowel-y" sound you can add another bandpass with high resonance and dial in the vowel-y cutoff frequencies. Also add some saturation to bring out the characteristics/harmonics.

It's a quite simple sound to create once you get the hang of it.
