    Now ... ;

    as my my 4 year old macbook's started to act like a crippled B***H !!! ;

    i'm lookin' for a competitor to these computer-based daws .

    i'm leanin' my eye on this Zoom's R24 SD-card recorder,
    but keepin' my good ears open for any serious suggestions / alternatives .

    my budget range is about 400 to 500 euros .

    requirements :

    minimum of 8*tracks simultaenous recording .
    at least 6*inputs with 48V phantom power .
    at least 96Khz capable .

    +++ good internal fx w/lots of presets .

    Good luck, mate.

    Try valium or something for a start. :)

    Then, if you're still not convinced, buy an Atari ST 520, install Cubase on it, and drive your hardware synths with it, into a mixer console, that has 4 aux sends and an insert per channel, and then have a rack or two of effects to do your production. Really, good luck. I hope you've inherited lots of moneys.

    That's the only competitor I can see, to a computer based DAW. Not a ludicrous recorder.

    Stop dreaming and do something with what you have. If you're not able to, then go flip the burgers. It's very simple.

    And if you need an advice for a whole hardware setup, I'm here. But I use Reaper. Because it's so much easier. I've been through hardware of all kinds.

    wise words, Sinewave! why do you need so much inputs, I present you: multitrack recording :) just get a simple Usb audio interface. or how is this called when you record one track after another?

    500E is not much if you want to buy a decent vintage multitrack tape recorder on ebay. However there may be a few broken ones that could be fixed.
