the most common way for that to "happen", is that the file is disguised as a media file of some sort. The icon can be changed. Someone could use the old Windows "Long Filename Exploit", in other words: trojan.exe actually renamed as trojan.mp3 (20 spaces) .exe
so the real file extension is not viewable. And then you see stories of people who "got a virus from an mp3". as one example...

if you are so concerned about reliable warez affecting your system, save up some money and buy the software and use freeware alternatives.

The sister site is very reliable, but if you deal with warez, prepare to deal with the unexpected, or rather, be prepared.

 

On macOS, the actual installer is not the .dmg, but the .pkg. If you think there could be something suspicious / unwanted in the package, you want to take a closer look at what the .pkg contains (and then use only what you need).
There is a useful tool for that called Pacifist: it allows to extract individual files and folders out of any .pkg, .zip, .tar

Installing/Using lifetime trial software comes at cost of increasing the risk of system corruption instability etc. legitimate software is less risky there are exceptions doesn't mean if you using strictly legit software you shouldn't do backups always do backups especially if you installing experimental pieces of soft now for reliable life time trials that one is tricky subject because it boils down to who is handling that task who is hacking, where to get it first hand (very important) usually lifetime trial software releasing teams are known for their reliability because they have image to maintain (not to the end user that much but to others like them) ex: R2R you know their releases will work quite good because they prove they are knowledgeable and capable of the task nobody is perfect so the teams can do a boo boo here there but they may release a repack/crackfix etc soft found in the wild without a team or someone tagged to it can be very experimental ex: floops ching lui or similar

 

actually acrobat is quite capable to contain and execute all kind of code.
