So, I'm in the Nexus Facebook Group and one guy said that they should do a new version of vanguard. Then one of the Refx guys (programmer, I think) wrote this:

We are. Vanguard 2 is practically ready for release, but there are additional things that need to be finished first (manual, website, promotional video, etc.)

That's exciting news, and I'm excited for it!

 

My inner 2005 is having a small renunion party and drinking Jolt Cola while burning CD-Rs with zips from PARADOX, H2O, OxYGeN, RADiUM, etc.

I'm curious how this new vanguard 2 will be. I never got to use the vanguard 1, I was too young when it had its time, but I always was interested in it! It seemed very well liked in the community

reFX even promised us a free update in 2014....and didn't deliver...!

2022 so 8 years later after reFX Nexus 3 is ready and they finally make enough money - now they have time and I guess they
look at your products, what can we sell. The Vanguard was the success story after all. 64 bit / New GUI etc...! Price ?

Did all you guys had Vanguard 1? How did you like it in terms of designing your own sounds?

 

It's officially called "reFX - Vanguard" , v1.8 was the last version in 32 bit.
There are circa 130 soundbanks and most played the soundbanks with their presets. The Vanguard sounds just very good.

Vanguard had some kind of metallic character, a little similar to Cakewalk Z3ta2. There was a preset called ARP Phone Tipps MS, that sounded almost the same as the synth used in Tiga & Zyntherius - Sunglasses At Night. Yup. It was the 'hardest' thing at the time. It's all over the releases from back then. Love to see it in 64bit. Suoersaw monster.

Valid opinion. To understand my standpoint, I'm just interested in old vst from the 2000s, that's why I like to hear from people who actually used it back then!

 

I used Vanguard back in the day. It was obviously intended for EDM and its factory presets ended getting overused to the point you could recognize them.. It worked for what it was, but ultimately I felt it was a one trick pony, overly simple, and it sounded like a cheap plastic version of a JP8000 or Virus.

I eventually wrapped my brain around z3ta+ and found it offered a wider palette of just-as-usable EDM sounds, if not better. There was one 'Happy Hardcore' bank for z3ta that just blew me away (some of the best supersaws I've heard in a plugin back then) and basically stopped using Vanguard entirely. I also remember moving on to Cakewalk Rapture, which also really impressed me.

Still Vanguard's cheesy (IMO) sound is a classic and it was worth going beyond the overused factory presets (they weren't bad, pretty iconic, just overused at the time).

Very nice! Occasionally, these interfaces look so silly from today's standpoint. I think there should be some kind of vst museum.
