reFX lauches Nexus 4.5 with redefined routing & more - Oct 4, 2022

reFX has announced the release of an update to the Nexus 4 virtual instrument for Windows and macOS. Version 4.5 is said to be the biggest and best update in Nexus history.

So many new features have been added, so many improvements, big and small, have been made. All free for Nexus4 customers.

On top of all the quality-of-life improvements that have been made, and the brand new “ROM Extension 4” we’ve added (70+ new presets), we opened up the internals like never before.

Changes in Nexus v4.5

• Added “ROM Extension 4” expansion to showcase some of the new features.
• Added “Routing”-page (replaces “Effects”, “Trancegate” and “Layers” pages).
  • Added complete routing overview of the entire preset. See which generators route into which layers, and which layers route into which FX-groups. Quickly and directly adjust basic parameters directly from the routing page.
  • Added generator-inspector. Parameters of individual VA-oscillators, sample-players, and wavetable-players can be adjusted.
  • Added layer-inspector. Two filters, amp-settings, adsr-curves, etc. can now be directly edited.
  • Added FX-inspector. The FX have been moved into FX-groups. Multiple layers can now route into the same FX-group to save CPU. FX can be freely arranged via drag’n’drop, even between FX-groups. You can add, remove, toggle all existing FX. All FX-groups have their own LFOs and routing-matrix.
• Added new reverb-type called “Black Hole”.
• Added new insert FX “wide mono”. Creates a mono signal and then widens it using psychoacoustics techniques.
• Added “random preset load” button (the die next to the previous/next buttons). Click on it and it loads a random preset from the list on the right. Very cool to get some surprising presets you may have not heard before.
• Added “hold” button. Once engaged, it keeps on playing all notes until you press a new set of notes.
• The brightness of the keyzone-note indicators now depends on the velocity of each key.
• Added ability to change the number of key zones.
• Added “depth” parameter to both user LFOs. They are modulatable via the mod-matrix as well.
• Moved instance-settings and preferences to the “backside”. Click on the reFX/Vengeance logos.
• The whole UI now has more of a “hardware”-look.
• Shimmer effect is a bit more pronounced now.
• Arp-parameters that have no effect for that mode or tempo are now visually disabled.
• Replaced cloud-sync with adjustable user-data path (configurable in the cloud app).
• Shimmer for the ArtsAcoustic reverb-types was very noisy.
• macOS: Ableton Live disabled automation lanes when NEXUS was used as an Audio Unit and the project was loaded.
• Improved stability and general bug-fixes.

Available in VST/VST3, AU and AAX plugin formats, Nexus is available to purchase for 249 EUR. The update is free to existing Nexus 4 users.

Where is promised Vanguard 2? Still no info after 2 years!
They sign a contract with Markus Krause in 2020 to use his audio engine and pay him 50% from the sales.
Then few months later they changed valid contract to pay him 25% without his permission.
That's why there is still silence.
BECAUSE OF THE MONEY!

Now I think that Vanguard 2 never will be released because it will be not profitable for them.
That's why they deleted all the products and pump up everything in the Nexus and hype it.
It's the most profitable.

Probably a marketing ploy to lure people to the website, maybe one will buy the Nexus.

Problems with Tone2 are well known since day one :
-they use fishy "protections" (Gladiator ...)
That's why they closed their KVR forum. And NEVER admitted using it, spoiling LEGIT users.

-they use psycho acoustic "tricks", totally messing out transients and stereo image.
Like a bad aural exciter (using short delay lines the wrong way).

Even when "disabled", they still there. Because it is "Tone2 sound".

You want to mess your mix ? Use a Tone2 patch for bass
Nemesis 2 and Saurus 2 somewhat fixed this problem. But still fishy sounding.
you don't have to trust me : use a stereo correlation meter and see the stereo image.

They seems to sound huge ... but totally fall apart in a mix. Because transients disappear and stereo image is inconsistent.

Vanguard was a good synth, especially Big Tone bank.

 

They could have made real money back in 2014 with a Vanguard 2 and today a Vanguard 3.
I read somewhere back then that they argued and Markus then founded Tone2.

The Nexus 2 was also just a ROMpler, the Vengeance masterhead Manuel Schleis had released many WAV libraries with trance sound at that time. The rest of the presets were made by Sound Designer. This is still the case today.

The reFX Nexus 2 programmer is called Michael Hartmann! You should remember this name. Wizoo / Steinberg - Xpraze was Michael Kleps - picture attached. The programmer of the Vengeance - Avenger is called "Keilwerth Audio". www.keilwerth-audio.com
We owe these software synthesizers to the programmers and not to the marketing professionals.

Hope teams c...4ck it again, so they could do a better V5 decent update, not just an embellisment for marketing.

 

Did anyone see individual outputs for each channel?

By the way what happened with that chinese version of Nexus 3 that was released last year, did it end up working in the long term?

 

back in the day i used always use vanguard over nexus i actually used to like it more than i liked nexus

 

Vanguard 2 is getting ready for release, trying to be ready for black friday (got reported in REFX FB group).

 

Installed it the day it was released, still working perfectly.
