hi i am seeking some simple easy programs to record the screen and audio, i am aware of OBS but as i recall was not very user friendly.

im not trying to do anything super profressional so the quality doesnt have to be perfect, just simple records

I guess this depends on your GPU but most can do that and come with software for this purpose, I tried now with an NVidia card and it can screen record just fine. I'm pretty sure my previous AMD could do it fine too, but I can't be sure.

Easy to use? Well, it's either open overlay and click "record" or start/stop with a keyboard shortcut, so that wasn't too bad.

Why not try a few out
Then come back and ask for what we know is better then the one you like most.

Almost everything that works with video can screen capture.

    Even the VLC media player

    upload_2025-2-9_23-23-15.png

although it isn't that much of a supprise when you look into what the VLC (video LAN Complete) was designd for.

If you run out of things to try, ShareX can do screen video capture: https://getsharex.com

I've never used it that way, but it's the best Windows screenshot program out there, gotta love those automated workflows. I use it for one key screen are capture + upload.

I've used Camtasia for a few years.

It's very reasonably priced too on our sister site!

Bandicam is easy to use, but there is a 10 minute limit and a watermark.

If only Camtasia could record ASIO streams ... it would be perfect. (this was requested ages ago and Camtasia doesnt bother to implement it)

If OP doesnt want to Edit the video afterwards, OBS is crazy simple to setup and it also supports ASIO right out of the box.
    https://obsproject.com

    thats also a good idea!

OBS works for me on Studio One 5. I use the record desktop in OBS. You cant be using any drivers in Studio One other than straight up "Windows Audio". Gets the job done for me. Not ASIO sadly, but doesn't seem to hold me back.

In the Studio One 5 settings:

"Release audio device in the background" - deselected
    "Exclusive mode" - deselected

I use ZD Soft Screen Recorder (portable) found in Rutracker. It's only 25 Mbytes, no install and has all the options you need.

I use an... ahem... "massive discount" version of Bandicam.
It's the shit, incredibly fast. Doesn't have ASIO support though, as most desktop recording software.

I also use that version, but I always mention the "official" free version's limitations :)

I tend to save the audio first and then add in the video afterwards, but I hear ya.

OBS is always the way to go. It only takes a few minutes to watch a tutorial and understand the software. I also record with ShareX when I need just a specific region with no sound (not a limitation, just how I use it). Super fast and easy once it's set up.

I agree though not 100%. It's true is free and the best (de-facto standard, in fact) for streaming but not so much when it's only screen-recording.

yeah people worked around that by recording audio in the DAW to wav and then sync it inside Camtasia. :trashing:

I haven't been able to figure out howto configure codecs/encoders there, maybe it's too simple to have such feature?
