Lets say the drum kit has only 1 crash cymbal... and we record the drum kit with overheard mics too.

lets say the cymbal is played several times throughout the song, every 4/8 bars or so.

    now..
recording the drum kit with overheads would place the cymbal where it is actually located...
lets say on the left hand side of the drum kit

so if we didn't change panning, the crash cymbal would lean towards the left side

    my question is...

would you keep is on the left side throughout the song? or do you think its better if it was in the middle so you would pan it towards the right?

since its the only crash cymbal in the song

how would u deal with this

    thanks

If you have a HH and a ride, I'd put the cym into the center and not change the panning in the mix (in the decay phase you have some other drums pieces on these mics too and that would mess up their pan).
