Kali IN-8 (2nd wave) would be a solid upgrade.

This is such a subjective thing that I wouldn't even feel right recommending speakers for YOU with MY ears.
Going to the music store and actually hearing the various speakers already did more for you than all the answers you may read here.

Yamaha hs8 or And if you have a little more money to spare, then the ADAM Audio A8H are definitely worth a look.

Hello, great question. Overall, it really depends on what YOU prefer. Some people prefer Genlec, while others hate them. This goes for the HS* line, KRK, Barefoot, Focal, etc. I personally am fine with my HS8s in a not very well-treated room. A major part of this is because I know them so well (I also got used to not being able to do anything about the room treatment). Personally, what you should do is measure out your room or give specs of your room and/or what your options and possibilities are for treatment. A reason to think about this is that each speaker will sound different in a given room. Now here are some specifics:

I will be using what I know about Yamaha HS8s / the HS series, since that is what I know the most about. If your room is small (let’s say under ~10 ft x ~12 ft or more confined, near-walls, less treated), a big woofer/low extension monitor will show room issues (bass build-up, modal problems, reflections) much more. If you are producing music with heavy low-end (like club music or modern pop), then having a monitor that can extend lower is helpful, but only if the room supports it reliably. Smaller monitors (HS5) can sometimes be placed closer to the wall/desk and still work; larger ones (HS8) demand more spatial clearance. A monitor that is too large for a small, untreated room can mislead you. Several user posts I have found throughout my research over the years say "HS7" or similar middle-range speakers are a sweet spot for many home studios. Also, a monitor that is “too small” might hide issues (you won’t hear the subs, your kick/bass may translate poorly to larger systems).

Personally, I always recommend using Audeze LCD-X. What does a good monitor/treating installation cost? >1200? Get the LCD-X then IMO. Also, with the LCD-X, you can take it with you anywhere. Let me know any specs you have, or if you are ABSOLUTELY decided on monitors VS a really good pair of cans and some good reference tracks.

There are 2 reasons to hate Genelecs:

    1) The Price
    2) Thought they would suddenly make you better at mixing; but instead, can just hear your mistakes better.

    The End.
