To play Guitar Hero like a boss with a guitar MIDI adapter... hell yeah! :disco:

Another similar reason is that if you use VG your bassist friend refuses to be your studio whore because of his pride... (true history, my brother in law is a very skilled bassist )

hi hamin, the reason the (6) strings are set out the way they are is for chords, and phrases to be reachable. the difference with the seventh, and eighth strings is primarily to add more chord/phrase 'across' the fretboard. and also for metal and some classical pieces to have a lower octaves

another reason, is to give guitar players a new instrument that he hasn't bought yet

  7. I have 12, three other funny little single stringy droning things, an Appalachian dulcimer and a bass, and I even try to get a tone out of the dental floss when it's between my teeth and wrapped around my finger. I love strings, string bikinis my favorite, but I am also into string theory and when I played tennis was totally into finding the perfect string with the thinnest gauge I could get away before reaching diminishing returns and I would have to change them every week, but back to reasons to buy a guitar.

If you are a musician, a guitar is a great instrument to play because you can take it with you most everywhere you go, you can, when you become proficient, play both melody and chords unlike with most other instruments, emote expressively by bending strings which you cannot do with almost any other instrument, be well received by every person as nobody dislikes the sound of a guitar, because of all the above reasons, bring people together as one at a gathering, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie as everyone sings the song you are playing together and then there is the sexy aspect, of which I took well advantage of when in my prime, if that is your thing and enjoy the joy of creating joy. I am sure there are others, but these are a few off the top of my head. And by the way, if you live in the Basel, Switzerland region and want a free guitar to learn on, hit me up and let me know, I need to whittle down some that I never play. I have been given guitars when I needed one and would love to help out someone in need as I have been helped in the past. I am blessed to have some sweet, sweet guitars at this time in my life and have a surplus and would just love to pass along the gift of music.

Because it's such a free feeling - to play guitar. I'm not addicted to alcohol - no weed, no cigarettes, not even food or drugs. I'm addicted to playing guitar. Once you start playing, you'll never be the same again. I started learning when in 2007, when my grandmother passed away, & my aunt committed suicide 2 months after my grandmother passed away, & my cat (who was my best friend at the time) passed away. On my 14th birthday about a month after my cat died, my parents bought me a used Fender from a yard sale. They marked it "To *my name which is nobody's business* - From Mom, Dad, Grandma, & *my dead cat's name*" to make it feel special. I picked it up, started messing with it, & it felt so real. Then my parents hired a guitar tutor for me. My dad sat down & said to me "I always wanted to learn guitar but I never got around to it. I spent too much of my life working. But I want you to learn not only because I think it would be good for you, but because I know you want to learn." Now, my parents were never really supportive of the musical skills I gained since then. They quickly regretted me learning guitar because I'd wake them up at 4AM playing "Wonderwall" or "Ticket to Ride" or some other shit. But trust me, if it wasn't for guitar & songwriting, I'd have been dead so long ago. The girls dig it too. Especially if you're a sexy dude such as myself. Hahaha ;) Well, the older you get, they start to get less turned on about it.
    I have a few guitars:
1987 Gibson Les Paul Studio (Sunburst red) with P90 pickups.
    2009 Fender Telecaster (Sunburst).
    2007 Fender Stratocaster (sunburst).
    2010 Fender Strat (black)
    Taylor 614ce
    Martin D1228
    Fender CD100 (12 string)
    2014 Gibson Hummingbird
    2008 Rickenbacker 620 (12 strings)
    2014 Ibanez Prestige RG852 8 string
    Gibson DG-355
2007 Gibson Les Paul Robot (silver blueburst)
    Faith Saturn Dreadnought FSCEHG
2009 Silvertone (like a strat replica. Not sure what the name of it is).
    Danelectro Lipstick (black)
2005 Takamine Jasmine (my first acoustic guitar).

I'd say that's quite a list. But anyways, I still love playing all of them. Especially my martin d-1228 & my 2010 Strat. Those 2 alone have gotten me thru so many battles in life.

@Bunford I'm drooling at those pics. That's a cool looking guitar!

  10. Cool, the guitar that I first learned on was an old formica Danelectro that I rented from my guitar teacher. He wasn't the best teacher as he would read Playboy magazine while I was trying to play stuff like "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head", but he would show me the centerfold, and to a 12 year old kid in 1971 that was pretty great to my eyes.

Best answer, an very well spoken man  i have an Appalachian dulcimer too... old friend of mine in Gatlinburg TN makes em

  12. I have been through Gatlinburg, nicest people in the world as I remember! What's your friend's name? I will definitely be getting another one of better quality some point down the road and would love to check out your friend's work. My great great, etc...grandfather was the first European to forge his way into what is known today as W. VA., a fellow named Morgan Morgan. I am descended from Scots-Irish people and have a deep inherent love of that regional musical heritage and go into a deep trance zone when I play my dulcimer. I have taken the one I have as far as it will go and would like to perhaps get one with mixed tonewoods and better machines, frets, nut and saddle.

I bought one because of the color- Blue Smear (kind of teal flame maple top with abalone binding and inlays)
and it was less than half price @ Sweetwater ( I love their guitar gallery)

  17. Thanks for the good info!
