Looks like they really went crazy with a new major version of Reason.

    from musicradar:

Announced earlier this year, and dripped out to Reason+ subscribers over the past few months, Reason 12 is now signed, sealed, delivered and potentially yours.

The highlight for most users is likely to be the redesigned Combinator. As before, this enables you to combine multiple Reason devices into a single unit, but it’s now much more customisable, with options to change the panel size, knobs, faders, buttons and graphics.

“Updating the Combinator is one of our top feature requests ever, for good reason,” says Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Product Manager at Reason Studios. “Whether you love designing powerful device-like patches or just want more sounds, this update really levels up the Reason Rack.

“We have already seen some super creative patches from the Reason community, and I can’t wait to see more.”

Reason’s graphics have also been upgraded to full HD - they automatically scale to the most appropriate size for your monitor’s resolution and pixel density and offer custom zoom. This applies not only to the built-in devices, but also to all third-party rack extensions.

Finally, there’s the previously announced Mimic Creative Sampler - this offers four sampler modes, automatic transient detection and sample slicing, and a whole lot more.

Reason 12 is available now priced at $399, and also to all Reason+ subscribers. Find out more on the Reason Studios website.

A bit of a disappointment. A new sampler the 10h I suppose? The only added instrument.. Ok the combinator upgrade is top but for an upgrade price of €139? Quick earning euro's? No for me it's over with Reason. They should have come with more new developments and workflow enhancements... Too bad!

FINALLY, I CAN RESIZE THE GUI! That's literally the only feature I wanted. Reason has always been a major player, but that GUI has been of an issue since 2007, lol.

This is my wish for the 10,000 R2R project. I don't think it'll be this, but I'd love it if it was.

I really learned how to make music on Reason, but I haven't used it since Reason 5 -- the last good warez release. So I'd love to get a modern copy. No way in God's earth I'd ever dream of buying it at those prices though.

I love the gui. I always thought it did a fantastic job of emulating hardware. The GUI is the only reason to use it, IMO. I don't think it does anything soundwise that you couldn't do much better in Ableton or Bitwig.

Really? Anyone still using Reason nowadays??? :D

They say they are a "plugin" instead of a DAW nowadays LOL.

Their new subscription based licensing is a huge fail IMHO.

Can you combine vst plugins with the new combinator that would be dope

Yeah but Reason is a totally modular DAW. No other DAW can claim that, save for VCV, but VCV is a much less inclined "daw".

I got mine from zzounds you get to pay it off.I got 11 suite it came with everything except friktion another synth and one effect type plugin.Which are all rent to own in the reason store.I got 12 months to pay it off through zzounds. With first payment they send the product and you can use it while you pay it off its alot easier that way atleast for me.Theres tons of add ons in the store from other companies but like I said earlier you get everything in suite thats in reason plus all except 3 plugins which I just rented to own.

What do you mean you've always been able to stack instruments or fx in combination but now you can stack combinator inside a combinator.

It's $129 US to upgrade from 11 to 12. It's right there on the first page of reasonstudios.com. So, shouldn't that be about 108€ in exchange rate? Just wondering...

I think if you are using Reason solely as a Rack plugin (like I am) then upgrading right away is not that needed. However, in the long run, the major Combinator update will be the reason (pun intended) most 11 users will move to 12. I believe that we are going to see a lot of creative Combinators with their own GUI coming out from left to right from folks all over.|

I'll take my time but eventually, I'm moving to 12!

Reason has always been a chained application and is probably the most unique on the market with its virtual TAB routing patchbay.
The fact it has DAW capacity is a bonus, even though I prefer other DAW's. ReWire now discontinued by Propellerheads enabled the simultaneous transfer of up to 256 audio tracks of arbitrary resolution and 4080 channels of MIDI data. That was a great thing.
All of that being said, I can see why they dropped rewire even though it still is useful for Sibelius and other apps.
Basically it will still function similarly to the rewire except now with all popular plugin models as a rack, enabling loading of all the modules. As to whether it can load custom combinator(s), external reason sequencing, I have not gone that deep. someone else may wish to.
