As a new 6.41+dev1113 (November13) beta comes with Voxengo r8brain free, it will have way better sample rate converter. It may be in official 6.42 or bit later.
Free version, as I remember, has a limitation of converting only 1 track, without batch conversion or multitracks. Maybe in project, there just will be conversion one by one, not all at once. And, as I understood, it will have the latest r8brain v2.9 algo with a much improved conversion quality vs v1.x

currently with Reaper do you really notice and weakness in the conversion system?

i'm just asking to learn...cause i think its hard to hear these differences

    thanks!

No difference, but voxengo offer src with quality closer to original, closer to "ideal", microscopically better.

but can you actually hear the difference? if so ok i would also consider using it!

i don't like going out of reaper if its something reaper can do

Reaper gets the r8b algorithm integrated. You don't need to do it outside of reaper.

In short: we get a better nyquist filter. That's all.

Some time ago I made a conversion test with a confusing result. I made a project with 88.2 or 96kHz SR (don't remember), converted it with Reaper (no dither) and r8brain to 44.1 and exported it with the original SR. Then I phase inverted the two conversions and the one with r8brain produced a way higher noise while the conversion with Reaper remained silent.

    6.41+dev1114:
    # r8brain: optimize lookahead calculation, might fix reported issues (maybe)

Work in progress. 1113 beta confirmed as buggy (with noises/glitch) by Alexey Vaneev from Voxengo. Testers still says it is not fixed in newer 1114 beta.

The best sounding Samplerate Converter is infact the quite unknown dBpowerAmp, you can get it from sister site.
Check and directly compare various samplerateconversion algorithms here: https://src.infinitewave.ca

You can easily see dBpowerAmp has superclean and steep filters, least aliasing (check 1kHz test tone for example) and ... yes, it does also sound best in 1:1 comparison of final converted results.

I can't see any difference to r8brain 2 and above.

I see a difference. But I don't hear any, because neither my interface nor my monitor system is able to reproduce differences at -180dBFS and below. And my brain would not be able to process it either.

    That's great news!

I always convert WAVs with Voxengo's R8Brain, since v1 free version. Now I won't have to do it outside Reaper. Yay! :headbang:

@No Avenger: When you nulled those files, you heard the Voxengo dither. It dithers files by default.

That's what I think too, but it was incredibly loud in the nil test. Don't ask me for the precise number but it was easily audible.
