    Because there's no additional context, strictly for file size & quality from best to worst:

    VVC > AV1 > H265 ≈ VP9 > H264 > VP8

    All hardware supports H264 and all online services accept H264.
    Most GPUs/phones support H265 and most online services accept H265.
    VP9 is supported on most 2021+ gen phones and GPUs, some online services accept VP9.
    AV1 is supported on most 2023+ gen phones and GPUs, but only YouTube supports AV1.
    There is no hardware support for VVC, no online services accept VVC.
