Okay, so I have taken the dive into Reaper and purchased it recently, for the most part i am enjoying the features, have wrapped my way around pretty much the whole program except this one issue...

Reaper Sampliomatic 5000 - When I add my drum samples and change the mode to adjust the pitch, the pitch sounds terrible... Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? If its in sample mode its fine but I want the ability to move say an 808 up and down on the keyboard.

Hard to say without knowing exactly what you are doing. There are much better alternative to Samplomatic
both free and retail. For basic sample playback it works great but some key features are lacking.

    Check out TX16Wx

Also search sister site forTogu Audio Line TAL-Sampler.

I am adding say a kick drum .wav file and want to move it freely on the keys, when i change the mode to semi-tone or freely configurable, it just sounds terrible... Does that makes sense?

While I understand Kontakt, Battery and other sampler vsts may get the job done, I also would rather keep this within Samplomatic instead.

What I am trying to do, I would assume would be considered sample playback, i mean this is pretty basic stuff.

I would still suggest a different sample engine. Some Reaper plugins work great like the reacomp
and reaxcomp to name a few. ReaSamplomatic is just to basic and will frustrate you in the end.

you could choose a different resampling algo in reasamplomatic and fiddle with the many options for each.
for tuned 808s though, i'd go for a synth and maybe layer it with some original transients.

Hi! is it a free sampler? they're no indication about licensing (or buying option) on the Grace page you've mentioned.

but... from KVR Audio, it's $60 (or $30 for "Intro") http://www.kvraudio.com/product/grace-by-one-small-clue/details
and related "Key file" as copy protection scheme... :dunno:

Be sure more precisions will be appreciated (TIA - and thanks about infos concerning Grace sampler). :shalom:

EDITED: from One Small Clue forum: seems to be freeware product. Probably an error (or outdated) informations on KVR Audio.
    Additional infos/confirmation here

Testing it (from virtual machine), fantastic, no key or something asked, have indicated similar blog ("edited section"), Grace have fantastic installers (both for VSTi + factory presets) too (it can detect custom x64 VST folder, cool about freeware stuff - iZotope/Audio Ease/lastest Waves can't do it - for expensive plugs :hahaha:it's a shame!).

So basically, in a nutshell. Reasamplomatic needs some help and don't use it :)

Yeah Reasamplomatic, not really great specially with what you want to do, the 808 samples have both to be top notch in quality AND handle with a good pitch algorithm, if you don't want them to sound like s..t when you mess with their pitch.
Kontakt (you map samples to keys in two seconds with that thing and you can save your instrument), Geist, and Small Clue (in order of preference) would be the best tools imo to do the job. Good 808 packs are all over the place in our dear sister site, and there are some very good already done kontakt libraries (goldbaby, industry kit 808 massacre and New Era Bass come to mind).

If you're looking for a tool that can set your x32 and x64 VST paths, so that plugin installers will already point to the correct install destination, and are on WIN7 (haven't tried 8, or 10 with this), then try this tool :

    FREEWARE

Thanks! "simple comme Bonjour" (in French), simple like hello... honestly I never searched about this tool (or similar). Mine installers (such custom for DMGAudio, on bro website) have this built-in feature in case of custom x64 VST2 path isn't declared into Registry - also have "Yes/No" dialog box to ask the permission to user prior to write VST keys into Registry. Admin rights are always required (it's mandatory to write anything to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE). Same principle about mine x86 installers (but now only one is remaining at home, about "SQ8L v0.91b" synth ;)

But using this useful tool (or by set-up Registry keys/values manually using .reg file or from regedit.exe) don't solve the problem about crappy installers provided by companies I've mentioned as example (list of them is very long - you'll can add... Roland and their PLUG-OUT + SoundCanvas installers - in Japanese language, who are installing to C:\Program Files\VstPlugins without any advice or optional target folder, despite the Registry keys are correctly set!).

"I want the ability to move say an 808 up and down on the keyboard."

BEFORE you start messing about with other costly VSTs, play with these options:

    • Note start - Note-on messages for this MIDI note will trigger the sample
    • Note end - Note-off messages for this MIDI note will stop the sample, if "Obey note-off messages" is checked below
    • Pitch offset - Specify a value, in semitones, to change the pitch of the sample.
    • Pitch@start - The pitch offset of the sample when it starts (only available in "Freely configurable shifted" and "Note" modes)
    • Pitch@end - The pitch offset of the sample when it ends (only available in "Freely configurable shifted" mode)
    via http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReaSamplomatic_5000

One of those is bound to be what you're looking for. Also keep in mind RS5K uses the very simple varispeed algorithm.

I understand. Sometimes it works for me, and sometimes it does not. I've resorted to using a Windows 8 hotkey/macro program coupled with a Logitech G602 mouse (keystrokes assigned to buttons on the mouse.). Doesn't really matter because the current batch of R2R need keygens and/or patch, so it takes 3+ minutes per install anyway, on a good day (sucks for fresh install though). The PEACE-OUT days we're pretty quick - kinda miss not having to f***in clik-click-click-click-click-carpel. I'm trying hard 'not' to install things, and will keep all effects x64 bit. Can't complain though! Nature of the Beast! ;-)

Normally if you want a sample to sound ok across say 2 octaves, you would have several samples at different pitches, I use a third apart, others will use more or less. If you extrapolate one sample over a couple of octaves on the keyboard it will sound dreadful. Have a look at some instrument samples in kontakt, you will see what I mean. I have seen some sample packs for kicks that do what I say, but most will just put a different kick sound on each subsequent key.
Good luck with your learning experience.

I got everything fixed. It wasn't anything with my learning experience, ive been using samplers for over 15 years. The pitch problem wasn't even reaper it was improperly installed ASIO driver, weird as shit. I got it fixed now working right.
