    Hello,
    I created a new project and inserted an mp3 track, to my surprise it won't preserve pitch after changing rate, even with option checked in both item and project properties.

    In past it worked, and the funny thing is that if I open an old project I made when it worked, pitch is preserved, as it must be.

    At first I thought that it could have been an mp3 encoding, but I tested using the same mp3 that worked, and now it works no more.

    Anyone had similar problems?

    Reaper is 5.979, Win7 x64

    Mh, it does here (the pitch preserving), same versions of REAPER (just portable) and Win.

    I haven't had the issue. I only use vocal audio file though.

    Checked on v5.979 here and pitch preserve working as it should. Maybe your .ini file got corrupted?

    No. Opening an old project with same asio settings and the preserve pitch works, so it's not the cause.

    I'm working on this side. I'll try to full reset and see if the problem persists.

    No way.
    I deleted the whole thing (included inis) and replaced with clean daw, but I couldn't find the reason for the preserve pitch malfunction that was still there.

    I found in Cockos forum a question about the same problem, to no avail.

    I made an half solution cleaning the old working project and saving it as default.
    While I had my way, now it's NOT possible to disable the preserve pitch, confirming that option checks are not responding.

    It's like there was a hidden toggle set and forgot somewhere else than ini files.

    WHERE (which dialog, detail, etc) are you changing rate?

    1) File->Project settings->Advanced->"Enable preserve pitch when changing rate for new items" checked;

    2) Double click on audio track->"Preserve pitch when changing rate" checked;

    3) Change rate with Playback rate slider on bottom of track window.

    I'm not aware of other settings for this property.

    Ah, now I got it, I did it in a different way (changed BPM and Playback rate in Item Properties).

    Just right click on the slider and activate 'Preserve pitch in audio items when changing master playrate' and it will work.

    Gotcha! It works!:wink:
    The problem is (was) that the playrate slider preserve property overrides the item preserve check, it's a bit confusing.

    I was not alone in the universe, after all...:winker:

    You're right but the slider is labelled master playrate and the others item playrate, so the slider is the boss.
    And the thing with the item's preserve check is you can a) alter the speed and preserve the pitch of individual items directly or b) change the projects tempo and determine which items change their pitch accordingly and which only their speed.
    This way you got all the possibilities. But I would prefer a small arrow for the playrate slider with a dropdown menue so it's more obvious.
