I'm on this mix session and Reaper it's really unresponsive, many audio crackling and spike issues. I tried to increase the buffer size to 1024 but still the same.

The CPU is at 38% but it's quite imposible to keep mixing with sudden lag and glitching. I had larger sessions in Studio One and ran much better.

I added the performance meter graph.

are you using any old plugins that are bridged? i had a similar issue that caused reaper to crash many times recently due to that

This can absolutely happen as soon as only one of the CPU's threads hits 100%. So you'll need to check this in the task manager too.

Which CPU are you using? Is your CPU perhaps not powerful enough?

I usually have the same problem as you, but in S1. There are days that the same plugins that I use in another project, I get cpu spikes. I don't know exactly what it is due to. I don't know what PC you have, I have an old one from 2010. Also one of the big problems I have is the temperature of my cpu, I almost always have to regulate it.

You need a better CPU cooler!
What exactly do you have built in there everything hardware and fan?

I have some coolers from other pc's, so I distributed them around the cpu, if you see what I did, kick me xD. But I managed to lower almost 20°C degrees. Also, curiously not let me use my two 4 gb ram. only one, I thought the motherboard was damaged, and had many blue screens. Since I put several coolers, I have the pc in 32°C degrees at rest, 50/55°C with very loaded projects.

Imaginative Mister Ryck! Although most of the problems probably have to do with lack of cash.

The only way to fix it was to freeze tracks, you can even freeze individual effects! Always learning something new.
