@No Avenger An improvement was made in reaper after this video:

    v6.38 - October 17 2021
+ Loudness Meter: add options for writing automation inverted and selecting single output value

Same thoughts man. The minute I saw it on the internet, I thought it has to be my avatar.

Compression, gain riding and compression ratio/input riding are all complementary processes - neither is objectively better or meant to replace other. But the producer need to have a very clear intention for the end result and that will decide which method(s) work best for that specific scenario

Basically, yes. But this does not mean that I would replace compression with this method. I'd rather add it. A compressor can very well contribute to a sound precisely because it influences it.

Been doing this with Waves Vocal Rider for a couple of years, but the last 2 weeks I've been using this :) Works just as well!

They updated JS: Loudness Meter after this video was released so that you can choose LUFS-M (inverted) directly in the plug-in, btw.

Damn, nice. No wonder Reaper has "Rapid" in its full name.

I already can't imagine a life without my custom actions for punch-ins and this seems like another huge time-saver.

And the best part is that I'm sure someone will come up with a custom action/script for this in no time.

That's what it means that Reaper makes for people, not for profit. Quality.

This is a great tutorial, but I use Waves vocal rider, it's far easier than this, if you don't have Waves this is a great method to use though

Oh, and I use TBProAudio DynaRide for that. It's pretty cool. However, this way is also pretty cool!

Reaper absolutely deserves the love. A small team of DEVs constantly updating their software and working hard to provide solutions and features that actually make sense, like the one in the video. Also, Kenny is a real character hahaha, love his tutorials.

That is really cool that it can act like an upward compressor without compressing.

advantage of this technique really is using subjective Loudness as base, means on source instruments like bass where frequency subjective equal loudness differs a lot can produce very interesting results
