3-Make the Default skin look at least half decent

Beauty (while 100% subjective) is one of the most important things, in our society.
One great example, Apple. The guys will probably spend weeks, or even months, until that icon or button looks perfect. Hardware or software, we can immediately see that they put a ton of effort, on the design part.
Today, we can ask questions, like... what would Linux be, today, if, a few decades ago, it had been released with a super pretty interface, nice menus, windows, etc, with some cool, interactive help, etc etc ?

Probably today, there would be at least 10 times more users, and many of them wouldn't be geeks.
At some point, the linux guys should have said 'ok, all the buttons, icons, menus, windows, all the interface- related stuff, we will ask some pro designers, to create some pretty, super appealing visuals, let's only show 1% of the most useful stuff, and the 99%, let's hide it, under some advanced menus'.

But instead, they let geeks do the visual work... and for an eternity, the interface was ultra ugly, not appealing, not easy on the eyes... and the menus and options were cluttered with infinite menus.. with a ton of submenus... and each submenu had another ton of options and menus...
With a general thought process like 'mmm, should we add a button to do or access this, or should we let the user type a 3-lines command, to do this or that ?'... and of course, because they loved their commands...

Perfect for geeks, but absolutely hideous and useless, for most of the users.

We could say the same about Reaper. It quickly gained a certain reputation 'ohh, the interface... it's so ugly.. it's a real nightmare'... and many people, still today, are scared of even trying it, because, since forever, they heard the UI is shit.
Sure, it can be skinnable... there are a ton of ways to customize it... but most people don't want a daw where they have to learn that there is a hidden menu, that will launch some script, that will launch another script, that will do this and this and that.

Too bad, with all the options, scripts, toolbars, etc etc, that exist in Reaper, they should be able to create something close to the... perfect user interface/skin
Maybe the v7 will be amazing...

I'd like to see Sample/Item Editor in Reaper, just like we have in Audition, CuBase, Live...

Better visuals in showing what tracks are frozen. Example when you freeze a effect or instrument in the effects window.

Mid / Side for their EQ would be very nice to see. Splitting channels is total BS. For sure nobody use it like that.

I would be surprised if it had to do with Splash screen, it goes in front several times.. It seems to be related with plugin load.
    But I'll try, thank you.

Yes, tried everything and finally ended up with buying playtime.
Like @Do Do said it can be moved or docked anywhere, u can even move the TCP (the one with meters and Mute solo) to the right. any thing can be customized with Reaper, just right click on anything for more options.
Remember that yeah, most posts on cockos forum tend to show a dislike for non-linear workflow. What most ppl dont get is the mindset that comes with non-linear workflow. For Ex. let assume u made or making 16bar loop, lets say u made like 10 or 20 of those when placed on linear space the real estate it takes, makes u thing "what a mess" it takes some time to go through all those, if those were clips it would only take 1/4 of those space, and arrange view will be clean.
I use playtime, but the downside is uses 'Free item positioning', playtime works under that feature IOW it cannot work without that, and 2 u cannot drag and drop clips directly from playtime to arrange view, there is 'write' option in the plugin which is like record/retroactive capture.
Playtime 2 wont be releasing anytime soon, i think Helgoboss dropped the idea for now.

Btw @Olymoon did u manage to try the Midi CC Amplitube thing ?

don't like the midi editor at all, it's always been lower-tier. (in-line editing is similarly, anticlimactic)
snapping is a general nightmare, has always been.
reaper's entire focus seems to be on theming as a kind of compensation for the absence of definite design and workflow choices.
it's a very distracting environment to work in. seas of menu diving, a lof of loose ends that the "philosophy" intends for the user to fix, but everything is always moving around, dock weirdness, frequent redundant text lists, frequent wasted screen space, not great media explorer.

that said, it's an amazing piece of software that i recommend, but nothing is perfect.

it would be great if they could hire consultants.

I'd love per-fx or per-track macro controls to control multiple FX parameters, much like the macro controls in Ableton Live racks, or instrument and doofer macros in Renoise. There's a script (IIRC it was made by mpl) that adds global macro knobs but they're limited to 8, so I'm hoping for a more native solution. FX containers are available in one of the preview builds, so I'm hopeful for macro controls to be implemented in the future.

We can already show FX controls in the TCP, but they're somewhat limited (e.g. you can't double-click to reset the value since it instead opens the FX window, among other things), and would clutter up the TCP.

Music is an HEARING ART not a VISUAL ART what went wrong when people with NO EAR got the change to decide that GUI is more important than the sound?

Painting is a visual art... What's the problem if blue is hidden behind the commode? Just look at your painting and feel it...

Man, like for every complex tool, you need to be able to see/find quickly any function that you often use, it's not about aesthetic, it's about efficiency.

What would be the benefit? I've never missed that option.

You're talking about the JS: Mid/Side Encoder/Decoder? Been there, done that, even with 3rd party pluggies.

    Configurable toolbar/shortcuts? :winker:

I'd like to have an option the choose whether muted tracks have active pre-fader meters. I'm not happy with the recent change of it.
Also there seems to be a bug when the play cursor is set to the very beginning of note (MIDI or audio), it's truncated (and it's not the fade-in setting).

I hope they don't implement anything which makes it less performant.

Let's say you want to edit a mono audio in RX as an external editor. When you're finished editing and want to render back the file to Reaper it will convert it into a fake stereo file. Don't know if there's any warkaround for this other than split the new file back to mono every time.

Doesn't happen here. Neither with Overwrite Original File nor with Save as. I could neither find an according setting in RX. Maybe you applied a stereo FX in RX?

    1. Adjustable/Resizable Fonts.
Its doable now on current version using theme tweaker, but not everything. we are still limited. Media explorer fonts cannot be altered.

    2. Sub-folders in FX browser folders.
For ex. if have a folder for Comp. it would be much better if there is a sub-folder inside so can make one for each like FET, Optical, Tube etc.
