I have one. But I read somewhere that above 60% humidity will damage electronics and such.

my area of study, and my trade. I"ll start with a bottom line. it helps, but the best cleaning will be in your wallet.

in just the last 10 years alone there has been a great deal of development in the area of air quality, and the relation to health. the market is flooded with products, research, testimonials and well written reports. but with many customers (I just spoke with a lady about this yesterday), the end gains vary from person to person. best advise actually, is to talk with your doctor. he/she knows you medically, and about these products

lastly, the biggest contributing factor is always the environment. your specific neighborhood, and the structure. large structures like hospitals or civic centers have a much better chance of controlling their internal environments. but small structure like your house, or a small studio office have a very difficult task trying to control the air inside. from infiltration like windows and doors, fresh air intake (even exhausts pulling outward) mean that the air inside is basically always a 100% sample of the air outside.

in a white paper comparing three top manufacturers, testing 10 modern residences at a one week long sampling. testing the homes for a week before installing the products, then for a week with the products installed the end improvements were termed anticlimactic

I have a little one TrueAir by hamilton beach (another free gift from the local casino) running on the whisper setting 24/7. Definitely helps keep the dust down. A lot collects in the HEPA filter when I clean it like once a month or so

When the mold levels are high in my town, there is no eluding that evil fungus' influence. In combination with other allergens, mold compounds their specific effects. Mold is debilitating, just as the medicines (yes, plural; killing my liver, too) to alleviate (though not managing to eradicate) the symptoms are. I can't think straight, I can't concentrate, I can't remember stuff, I can't do things in rational order. I almost got fired from a job I'd just started because I was making so many mistakes; the boss probably thought that I was a druggie or a drunk, though he might've feared I had degenerative brain disease. I just flat-out told him, "Mold is eating my brain." I learned that that statement might have been more than figurative, since I read that mold can, in fact, penetrate the blood/brain barrier and damage the hippocampus - which is the locus of cognitive processing, memory retention, experiential learning, and such – just as can chronic sleep deprivation. I met a woman in my town who told me that she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She sought a second opinion and was told my that doctor that what she was experiencing was extremely-severe mold allergy. He also told her that doctors had been instructed by the Govt. to not tell patients that the mold in our neck o' the woods is weapons-grade mold, the very strain used in biological warfare - and that doctors were also to not divulge that they had heard such from governmental agents, or they'd lose their medical licenses. A neighbor of mine recently died of emphysema, ostensibly resulting from smoking like a chimney for most of his life, but I have to wonder as to mold's contribution to his terminal illness. I need to relocate to another part of the country where the allergies aren't as severe and their seasons not prolonged (meaning, practically year-round), but I haven't the means. Rare are the days, anymore, when I can breathe and think clearly. I am perma-fukt, y'all.

Got a name drop for me?

And damn stevitch, that's a fucking horror story. Sorry to hear that man.

  12. @stevitch .. sorry for your misery. I too am severely affected my mold and have felt to be loosing my mind a few times from my high sensitivity. One time I breathed in the mold dust from a window that hadn't been opened in years when I was living in Southern California, and for the next two hours couldn't breathe, my bronchial tubes swelling and just a tiny whistling sound as I labored to stay alive. I thought that I might die of asphyxiation. I was really scared. It felt like being buried alive. Mold sucks. I hope that you might be able to move to a more hospitable area of the country to be able to do your best to outrun your adversary. What part of what country do you live in?
