I got some vsts from R2R with that special expectation to ban a website. A cmd file that writes in webaddress into the hosts file helps to do it. The problem is that whatever i do - with the cmd or manualy writing - i cant install the plugins it keeps telling me to change the hosts file first. Does it matter that my PC is offline ?

    Run CMD as administrator
Check Windows>System32>drivers>etc>hosts and make sure the following has been added in this order:
    127.0.0.1 www.r2rdownload.com
    127.0.0.1 www.elephantafiles.com
    127.0.0.1 www.r2rdownload.net
If the entries are not in host file, edit with notepad or another editor. Save.
Turn off and reboot your machine.

sounds like you're using some antivirus which is locking the hosts file

Following the post below that shows how to get to the host file, don't forget to right click > properties > and make sure read-only is unchecked otherwise it will not allow you to make changes, even if you follow the admin step.

drag the host file to the desktop as a copy, edit it, save it and then drop it back into the etc folder and overwrite the original.

Win 10 will lock the host file by default. WIn 7 no. Right clickk on the hostfile and select edit or open as admin

I could be stating the b@#$$%^& obvious here but I found out the hard way

When opening your HOST file make sure that you are running Notepad as Administrator. Its the only way you can save your HOST file as .file. If you don't run Notepad as Administrator it will save the HOST file as .txt NOT .file which won't work.

That is incorrect. You open the host file. You edit the host file and when you "save" it, the current file type is the default. That is the reason why you have the option to "save as", just in case you want to save to a different file type. That works for every file.

It does not matter that your PC is off line

Your host file may be protected by your antivirus. (It was the case for me)
If you use any protection program, search in the configuration if there is an option to protect or no the host file.

Members, I think we have told the OP enough to solve the problem. Yet the OP has not even shown the courtesy of thanking anyone who has contributed to this thread or simply letting us know whether the suggestions worked or not. :dunno:

this whole thing is a ploy by r2r trying to direct us to pay sites.
who would even know such sites as elephanta exist if it wasnt for the hosts manipulation?
and i dont see many willing to pay for somethimg you can get for free elsewhere.
no wonder r2r cant come up with cracking any more when theyre busy with this bullshit
