Wow, Olymoon's post vanished like a pond in the middle of a desert! It was about putting a question mark in the title of this thread. That was weird.

    ???

There's no such thing as something @Olymoon can't moderate. Including himself.
    You're welcome :disco:

Using 7z makes the final rar smaller. You don't need a thread to comprehend this.

Noting weird , the title is an affirmation from someone who is not from R2R.
So, without a question mark it's just another clickbait.
When people have no clue, they should ask to learn, not make assumptions.
    And less missleading titles.

So correct! That's why I use it to safeguard against accidental deletion from virus scans due to 'false-positive'. I will only 7zip what I know I can trust.

I'm not critiquing your question mark concern which I wholeheartedly agree with. It was that I watched your post literally disappear as I was reading it. I must be losing it, LOL.

The title is a statement, not a question. Although i ask questions about the compression also.
I can clear as day see that new R2R releases have compressed exes where they didnt before, i dont need to be a part of the group to state the fact.

Still not sure why they used LZMA instead of LMZA2, although its not so important

i think if you select encrypt files it hides the keygen from the AV? cant remember and not even sure if it works in reality, i 7zip keygens too though

    Exactly and that's the problem.

You're not stating a fact. The only objective fact is, R2R are compressing installers.
But you add the explanation yourself "cos installers bloated up"
Speaking on behalf of R2R... While you have no clue why they are doing this..

With LZMA2 you can compress files in multiple threads which increases the compression speed but reduces
the compression ratio a little compared to LZMA. With multiple threads, the memory usage increases as well
(not only while compressing, also when users decompress those files later).

So basically it's faster but not better.
I think R2R still uses LZMA to increase compatibility while getting the best compression ratio possible,
even if it takes more time for them using just 1 cpu thread.

In Inno Setup you also can use high compression levels based on the LZMA algorithms + set an option
to solidify for an even smaller final size but in cases with large amounts of files, you cannot use
"solid compression" anymore because otherwise the installer would take ages to start up.

    Example:
When I created the "Serum Skinstaller", Inno Setup had to compress 21550 Files worth 633 MB.
I used the level "lzma/max" but also could've used "lzma/ultra64" but that would've increased the
memory usage quite a bit which results in error messages on slower machines.

Without Solid Compression the Installer became 505MB (loads immediately),
with Solid Compression it was 390MB but it takes 10 seconds to load as it first has to decompress
the required installer data. So I sticked to the fast and secure 505MB and compressed it in 7zip to the
    final 335MB Package I shared.

...because 1 installer file in a 7z archive uses way less resources to compress/decompress
than 21550 files in a highly & solidly compressed installer.
