R2R and RET are two different teams, certainly very connected to each other, but always two different teams. It is very nice that RET is back to release products like in the summer, really appreciated.

this is a whole new level.
I mean, I've heard people asking why nothing is released. But people asking why something is released is new to me

Now that I think of it, it's been ages since I last heard from Vienna Symphonic Library and its proprietary sample player.

    Is VSL a White Elephant?

I mean, what can you do as a company when you already have a foking Endless catalog of libraries..
    Do another?

It seems to work for Spitfire, but I donno..

Just going through it kinda boggles the mind,
so much options, so much Gigabytes, so much money..
but what makes each one different, what's what, what's good/bad?
    Hard to tell apart/differentiate..

Meanwhile guys like Spitfire, OrchestralTools, Cinesamples, Cinematic Studio or Audiobro get all the attention,
and N.I. must be literally Drowning in their own money.. lol

I dunno if it means anything (defo not to me =) but I guess Soundminer being a PT-focused thing means... something? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The big game is prolly bigger than even Squid Game at this point. Not just because it's brought to you by cute witches, instead of faceless corporations!

Although there was nothing for me in the last releases, I still appreciate that R2R has made 449 releases in only 2 months. This is amazing, hands down!

    Oh agreed!

I downloaded maybe two things to try out, but just because it's not for me doesn't mean they're not doing clever things.

My thinking as well, but I'm not a connoisseur of orchestral libraries. I mean I don't score for a full symphony, but I sometimes do stuff for string quartets like.

What works for me is to have basic tonal controls and enough articulations/keyswitches.

Funny thing is that a friend who's a trained cellist likes my stuff, whether I use them in a score or as part of something electronic. Why? It's not the sound, he likes because they sound "realistic" (whatever that means), that he can imagine it played on a real cello. Maybe it helps that I use guitar lines when I tune my geetar in fifths and use those as the starting point.

Guys, Soundminer Plus is a stratospheric release. It is the standard of film and post-production industry, and it's well known to be the ideal complement to Pro Tools and Avid Media Composer. For me it's the biggest post 10k R2R product, really important. And this honestly gives me really high hopes for the "purple dream"....
    Thanks Thanks R2R!:mates:

I'm not an expert in high end orchestral libraries but AFAIK these two companies are a step ahead in quality (supposedly) but especially in exclusivity. I'm including crack difficulty in exclusivity since they have their own sample-player. Vs Kontakt based.

    1. EWQL: I've heard about them here and there lately
    2. VSL: Haven't heard in quite some time. And I think this is even more big than EWQL's. Perhaps both the price and the size are so bananas that very few warez users would be interested? (just a random guess)

Well for what I know, VSL is really High end..

They have a very technically advanced/detailed system,
that blends VIP (sampler) and specially MIR (spatial mixing) with the instruments themselves..

Outside of VSL we've got some spatial mixing alternatives, and they can be very good,
however here the whole thing is designed to go together from the ground-up, so it's more convenient..

So it's pretty much a self contained thing, where every aspect can be adjusted to crazy levels of "perfection".

The problem they have is for one side excessive Complexity,
for professionals that's not a problem, but for more casual/beginner users it's a bit much to chew..

And well, judging by the Demos, and usual ppls opinions/complains,
their libs seem to be on the Bright/thin/analytical side of things.

    They're very accurate and natural,
but maybe not as bombastic/epic and hyper produced as the usual stuff.

So I imagine it's possible they deal more with the Educational and AV production sectors,
rather than the enthusiast market, or some areas like videogames/movies/trailers where more epic kind of stuff is the norm..

VSL is amazing from what I have seen and heard, but it’s elicenser protected for a start… so will see what happens I guess when Steiny change to an alternative protection system and whether they continue to use it. I’m guessing a lot of legit users won’t share their licenses, but given the EWQL Composer Cloud, and the fact that the likes of Adobe was cracked from the beginning, I’m surprised a solution hasn’t been found for that, but then again, more people use Adobe that EWQL, so I guess it’s about demand, or lack thereof.

I know much has been written in this thread about UAD and how R2R don't crack hardware, but I'd really like a cracked version of that Philippe Starck guitar desk!

but, as is often the case with professional tools, they are not very intuitive to use and are aimed more at engineers than software geared towards artists.
That's why the value of the app isn't obvious at first glance. However, it can do a lot more than the DAWs built-in databases, e.g. by the endless possibilities of filtering with AND/OR/NOT, for example. The vendors youtube videos can give us an overview what the App can do for us.
As @HammerTiMe said it's a professionals tool and it shows the path R2R is on. :like:
