Wolfgang Heichel (born November 4, 1950, in Meißen; died January 20, 2026) was a German singer.

He became famous in 1979 as a member of the pop group Dschinghis Khan, which disbanded in 1985. After Dschinghis Khan's reunion in 2005, he left the group in 2014 along with Edina Pop and Henriette Strobel and performed as "Dschinghis Khan" in various formations from 2018 onwards.

Heichel was born in Meißen (East Germany) as the son of a mechanical engineer. When he was three years old, the family moved to West Berlin, and when he was 16, to Melsungen near Kassel. After graduating from high school, he studied art education (majoring in photography, film, and television) for nine semesters at the Kassel Art Academy, aiming to become a senior art teacher, but he dropped out two semesters before graduating.

In Switzerland, he met dental assistant Henriette Strobel, who was beginning her training as a beautician. A year and a half later, on April 9, 1976, the two married. In 1977, the couple moved to Munich, where Heichel began studying dentistry at LMU Munich, but he dropped out after failing his preliminary exams. During his time with Dschinghis Khan, the relationship broke down, and after six years of marriage, they began preparing for divorce. After the divorce, Henriette reverted to her maiden name.

On January 20, 2026, Wolfgang Heichel died unexpectedly at the age of 75.

From the age of eight to thirteen, Heichel took piano lessons and taught himself to play guitar. At fourteen, he became the singer of a school band and played in Berlin with the bands Black Birds and Inaction. After studying art education, he became the bassist and singer of the group Blue Heaven, which moved to Switzerland. There, the group disbanded, and Heichel founded a new band, which, however, did not receive a work permit in Switzerland. He was hired as a guitarist in Christian Anders' backing band, but the planned tour was subsequently canceled. During his dental studies, he also worked as a studio singer, for example, with the Saragossa Band.
