Wheesung faced legal troubles in 2021, when he was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation after being convicted of illegally administering propofol, a psychotropic sleep anesthetic. The court found that he had purchased 3,910 ml of propofol for 6.5 million won and administered 3,690 ml on 11 occasions between September and November 2019. In March and April 2020, he was found unconscious in Songpa gu and Gwangjin gu after injecting etomidate, another anesthetic. While etomidate has similar effects to propofol, it was not classified as a narcotic at the time. However, on February 28th, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that etomidate and six other substances would now be classified as narcotics or psychotropic drugs under an amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Narcotics Control Act.
