    Damn! All of the greats are leaving or, have left. Wayne Shorter was one of the greatest Soprano Saxophonist this world has ever known. Not only was he a master of that instrument, he was also an extremely prolific composer. He will be sorely missed. R.I.P. Wayne!

    Ohh shit!!! For me one of the most inspiring saxophonist. I love this soprano sound, so expressive and full at the same time. It's a reference.
    His time with Weather Report, gave extraordinary beautiful music (obviously Zawinul, Pastorious and the others, had something to do with it).

    Wayne Shorter, is this musician, that is able to transport you into melodies, including soft ones, without ever play cutesy. There is always some kind of strength in his playing.
    We will miss him, and continue enjoying all he left in this world for us. His music, his joy, his legacy.

    Rest in peace Master. And thank you.
    :bow::bow:

    Edit: I must add this quote from Rolling Stones mag:
    Herbie Hancock, Shorter’s closest friend and collaborator for more than six decades, said in a statement, “Wayne Shorter, my best friend, left us with courage in his heart, love and compassion for all, and a seeking spirit for the eternal future. He was ready for his rebirth. As it is with every human being, he is irreplaceable and was able to reach the pinnacle of excellence as a saxophonist, composer, orchestrator, and recently, composer of the masterful opera …Iphigenia. I miss being around him and his special Wayne-isms but I carry his spirit within my heart always.”

    Damn shame, that is one man that saw a world change before his very own eyes. For me the man outshone Miles in many places during the time he spent in the second MD5. Maybe that's why he effed to WR.

    RIP.

    With Wayne gone, I'm reminded once more that in a not so distant future we'll be living in a world without Herbie, Jarrett, Ron Carter, John Scofield, Dave Holland, John McLaughlin, Sonny Rollins, Joe McPhee, Pat Metheny, Jack DeJohnette and so many others I'm forgetting...

    What an incredible generation of musicians.

    And what about Ernie Watts? May he gift us with his immense talent for a few more years... I confess that I'm still not ready to say goodbye to this giant... The only undeniable certainty we have is that we are all going to die. After dealing with the loss of my father, I learned to process this idea (in a practical way). But I confess that despite keeping the childish fantasy that special and talented humans should not leave us, I came to understand that we are eternalized by what we produce. If there is a creator and some law passed by him, I think this is one of his maxims.

    Say Olymoon: I could not agree more. When giants of any music genre leaves us, they leave a huge void. Thankfully, the music they've left behind remains for us to enjoy for as long as we're here. Wayne Shorter joins a very long list of legends who cannot be replaced.

    This afternoon Spotify sorted Birdland in the list of a Pat Metheny Group Mix that I let play on my HiFi. It's a while I haven't listened to that song. ...and I just got this sad news from here now.
    In the sequence of the great people leaving us, it reminds me that the time is running to fast, for all of us, and we can't even hope to live not even near to 90 years. So the second thought after the sadness is always how many times I have missed the opportunity to listen to that musician in a live concert.
    Well, just like some other important influencers of my musical education like Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett (he is still alive but can't play anymore in concert*), at least once in my life I could see and listen to Wayne 30 years ago on the concert "A tribute to Miles Davis". Because one year earlier I missed going to Miles' concert after my sax class that afternoon, didn't want to rush home, I was young in many aspects, thought the tickets must have been sold out (later it turned out I was wrong about that). So regretting it when Miles passed away, I was 1000% convinced that at least the tribute concert a year later I can't miss. And what a spectacular concert it happened to be with Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Tony Williams and Wallace Roney next to Wayne. R.I.P.

    Oh, one more thought. I think why I loved the movie The Fugitive with Harrison Ford so much was probably because of Wayne's solo in several scenes. And these parts aren't even on the soundtrack album of the movie.
