Val Edward Kilmer (December 31, 1959 – April 1, 2025) was an American actor and singer.

He was a sought-after Hollywood star, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, thanks to films such as Top Gun, The Doors, Tombstone, Heat, and Batman Forever.

In Oliver Stone's 1991 biopic The Doors, Kilmer played rock legend Jim Morrison. He sang all of the concert sequences himself, and his performance was highly praised by film critics. Kilmer then had a cameo in the film noir Dead Girl before starring as the comic book hero of the same name in Batman Forever.

After filming Michael Mann's Heat alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, Kilmer embarked on the projects DNA: The Island of Dr. Moreau and The Ghost and the Darkness, in both of which he played the lead roles.

Kilmer died on April 1, 2025, at the age of 65 in Los Angeles as a result of pneumonia

A wide-ranging leading man who earned critical praise, he was known to be charismatic but unpredictable.
At one point he dropped out of Hollywood for a decade.

I'm in shock. 65 years old is kind of very young by today's standard.

Pneumonia affects 450 millions people per year globally. Among them, around 4 million die, which is 1%.

Val Kilmer was part of this 1%, this is crazy.

He was sadly already a victim of throat cancer :(
He survived it mostly but considering chemotherapy and what it does to anyone's body, I imagine the regenerative ability of the body and ability to fight off any other disease is weakened.
    RIP

    3. The script was filtered through dozens of people—including Morrison’s parents and Elektra Records.
Oliver Stone didn’t just write a rock movie—he had to negotiate with lawyers, estates, labels, and parents. Morrison’s family only allowed dream-like flashbacks. Pamela Courson’s parents restricted any implication that she influenced Jim’s death. Meanwhile, the band members weren’t all on the same page: Ray Manzarek refused to participate, while John Densmore and Robby Krieger consulted on the film, each bringing their own version of the myth. The result? A movie as much shaped by censorship and grief as by art and music.

As an advanced society, I truly believe we need to start looking at replacing attempted cures that can cause as much or more damage as the disease they treat, with treatments that are less invasive.
Chemotherapy was introduced in the 1940s. With all of our advanced technology, you'd think someone had found a better alternative by now?? If anyone's immune system is bordering on incapable of working properly, they are susceptible to anything. A common cold or bronchitis could well turn into anything far worse and lethal under those circumstances.

We already started replacing chemo in cancer by other therapies long ago, like imunotherapy, hormontherapy, etc
The chemicals arent the same of the 1940's, are less toxic, and in some cases chemotherapy is the best way to go

Chemotherapy DID NOT destroy the imunosystem, you are messing things totally and what you are saying is true only to LEUCHEMIA, when you HAVE to destroy the imunological system, to replace the "fabric"

    Like phages for cancer therapy.
Engineered phages can transform cancer treatment by targeting cancer cells while sparing healthy ones. Phages exhibit versatility as nanocarriers, capable of delivering therapeutic agents like gene therapy, immunotherapy, and vaccines.
    Some really fascinating stuff there

    So do they all work?

This doctor that was directed at me earlier in this thread says the immunologists, oncologists etc do not talk to each other.

So you and this is a heck of a lot of mixed messaging.I have buried a lot of people who died from it and in nearly half, the treatment made them sicker than they were before it. Of 15 people only one survived and he was the one who had none as he had it completely cut out - prostate and surrounding nerves removed. Some cancers cannot be survived like pancreatic cancer because it is difficult to detect early, so no treatment is going to work properly in advanced stages, but they still do it in some places.
