Toots Thielemans
Once upon a time when I was a teenager that moved away from home. I didn’t have a car, a gig, or much money. I was addicted to LPs but I needed to eat . Having a couple of bucks for dinner one night I stopped in a record store to see what they had. There was this white LP with a drawing of Toots Thielemans on the cover & I really wanted it but I was very hungry. I made my decision and have been a fan of my Toots Thielemans diet plan ever since. This interview took place over the telephone ( my first phone interview) the day after I saw the band play at the Dakota jazz club. The band was a trio Toots, Kenny Werner (piano, synthesizer), and Oscar Castro-Neves (guitar)

Yes it's also my preferred.

 

He is my favorite harmonica player, soon as you hear one tone you know that's him. RIP

Toots was to the harmonica what Lionel Hampton was to the vibraphone.

 

Without a doubt, a wonderful and unforgettable classic that has been played by some of the greatest musicians of the last century. We're losing a lot of very talented heavyweights in the music universe this year. 2016 has been quite a year. Hopefully, the year will end on a hopeful note (though I'm not holding my breath). Toots was a real gem.

 

The harmonica theme to Midnight Cowboy is one of the most haunting pieces of music I've ever heard !
The harmonica theme to Sesame Street is one of the most recognisable in TV history !
And then there's all that jazz !
Toots Theilemans will be very sadly missed
