    R.I.P. - Tony Carr - January 2, 2026 - British drummer

Tony Carr (born October 24, 1927, in Malta; died January 2, 2026) was a British drummer and percussionist who initially played in jazz and later primarily in rock music.

Carr first performed in Malta with the groups of Freddie Mizzi and Sammy Galea, and later in Jimmy Dowling's band. In 1953, he moved to Great Britain, where he played in Billy Eckstine's band. In 1957, he recorded with the ensemble of the show *Share My Lettuce*. In the 1960s, he was a member of Bill Le Sage's trio, with whom he recorded the album *Directions in Jazz* in 1964.

He then recorded *Like Someone In Love* with Danny Moss. In 1966, he also accompanied Hoagy Carmichael, with whom he also performed in Hamburg; he performed with Cleo Laine at the Prague Jazz Festival. He was involved in recording sessions.

In the realm of pop music, he first gained recognition as a member of Donovan's band, with whom he initially recorded the single "Sunshine Superman" (1966) and the album "For Little Ones" (1967), before subsequently recording a number of albums with him.

During this time, he was also a member of Ronnie Ross's and Harold McNair's groups. Later, he worked with Alexis Korner and the C.C.S., and as a studio musician with John Schroeder, Tim Hardin, Alan Price, Kevin Ayers, Al Stewart, Magna Carta, The Strawbs (Nomadness), and glam rocker Alvin Stardust.

He was also briefly a member of The Family Dogg. In 1979, he played with Paul McCartney's Wings and participated in the Concert for Kampuchea; the following year, he worked with Roger Daltrey.

Later, he occasionally collaborated with Al Stewart and Alan Price in the studio and also contributed to Cliff Richard's albums "The Platinum Collection" (2005) and You can hear 75 at 75 (2015). As a football fan, he composed the club anthem Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur (2000).
