Quincy Jones died on Sunday at the age of 91. The jazz musician and music producer is known for his collaboration with Michael Jackson.

Jones worked with major artists such as Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles. He also produced Jackson's music, including the albums Thriller and Bad. Thriller is one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Jones provided the music for famous films such as The Color Purple and The Wiz. He received a total of seven Oscar nominations for these. In 2025, he would receive an honorary Oscar for his entire oeuvre.

Jones himself performed on stage with artists such as Count Basie and Lionel Hampton. In 1985, he led the recording for We Are The World, a collaboration of 46 world stars for charity.

With 28 Grammys, Jones is one of the most awarded artists of all time. Only Beyoncé and Georg Solti have been awarded more often. In 1991, the musician was named Grammy Legend, an award that has only been given eighteen times to date.R.I.P.

Rest in peace. Iconic producer. From his production work, MJ's Off the Wall is my favorite but Thriller and Bad are killer too. I do love his 60s music too. Especially this super cheeky tune.

Oh and another favorite of mine. Absolute banger and one of deep house predecessors for me. Written by another true master and probably biggest talent ever Stevie Wonder, a song that was aimed for MJ but didn't make it to Off the Wall, Patti Austin did it justice and so did Quincy:

May the ground is light on you legend...

    QJ: You like Brazilian music?

David Marchese: Yeah, but I don’t know much beyond Jorge Ben and Gilberto Gil...

QJ: Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso are the kings! You know, I visit the favelas every year. Those motherfuckers have a hard life. They’re tough, though. You think our shit in America’s bad? It’s worse there.

    Quincy rules!:guru:Quincy rules!

Yet another highly intelligent and resourceful genius has left us. I hope someone as talented as him fills the "vacant spot"!

Not to be too picky here but neither Gil, nor Caetano grew up in favelas, they were from middle class families. Just like the father of bossa nova, João Gilberto. One thing is worth to mention though, they all are from Bahia state in Brasil.

I understand the context of the quote; I live in Bahia too. What he meant is that the lives of Brazilians, in general, are very difficult, especially since he would occasionally visit favelas at the invitation of friends when he came to Brazil.
