Mark-Andreas Schlingensiepen (* 1956 in Bradford, United Kingdom; † 2 May 2026 was a German conductor, composer and artistic director of the notabu.ensemble neue musik based in Düsseldorf.

Schlingensiepen was the son of the theologian Ferdinand Schlingensiepen (1929–2025). He studied at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf, where he co-founded the notabu.ensemble neue musik in 1983 with fellow students. Later, Schlingensiepen taught at the Robert Schumann University of Music for 20 years.

Schlingensiepen collaborated with numerous orchestras throughout Europe and performed concerts worldwide. In addition to contemporary music, which led to collaborations with Friedrich Cerha, Heinz Holliger, Beat Furrer, Manfred Trojahn, and many others, a particular focus of his work was composing live music for silent films.

Among other works, he wrote scores for Battleship Potemkin, Berlin – Symphony of a Great City, Faust – A German Folk Tale, The Student of Prague, Madame Dubarry, Emak Bakia, and L’Étoile de mer, which were either based on piano reductions of the original music or pursued new approaches. In addition to his other works, Schlingensiepen primarily composed chamber music, such as Totentanz (Dance of Death) based on a mural by Felix Seiler, published by Ries & Erler Music Publishers.

At the end of April 2026, the Notabu Ensemble celebrated Schlingensiepen's 70th birthday with a grand concert at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf. Schlingensiepen's health prevented him from attending. A few days later, on May 2, 2026, Mark-Andreas Schlingensiepen died after a long and serious illness.
