The world of Brazilian music lost one of its greatest talents this Monday (16). Hélio Delmiro, recognized as one of the most important guitarists and instrumentalists in Brazil, passed away at the age of 78 in Brasília. The artist had been facing health complications due to diabetes and kidney problems, which required regular dialysis sessions (he had been hospitalized for 55 days at Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo).

Delmiro received an emotional tribute last year with the benefit concert Somos Hélio Delmiro, held at Teatro Rival Petrobras in Rio de Janeiro. The event was organized to raise funds for his medical treatment after the musician fell ill during a performance at Sesc Pompeia in São Paulo.

With a brilliant career, Delmiro accompanied great names of MPB such as Elizeth Cardoso, Clara Nunes, and Elis Regina. He also played alongside legends like João Donato, César Camargo Mariano, and João Bosco. His versatility led to international collaborations with singer Sarah Vaughan and bassist Charlie Haden. Among his most celebrated works is the instrumental album Samambaia, recorded in partnership with César Camargo Mariano.
